brocno2454 Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 I am looking at getting my front pads and rotors changed and also the back pads and rotors changed along with the calipers either being rebuilt or replaced on my 91 lumina. Does anyone have a idea on what I should spend on this at a decent shop. The shop I am going to charged me 40 dollars to check my brakes and install front rotors on my 94 grand prix if that gives you an idea. Also the rotors cost 58 for the pair yes I know a lil pricey. 3.1cutlass Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 I just bought new rear pads and rotors today for like $78 and the calipers are going to be $42 each when i get them. I plan on doing the work myself though. Quote
brocno2454 Posted April 8, 2008 Author Report Posted April 8, 2008 I am figuring about 400 to have it all done with parts and labor. The chevy dealer quoted me 359 to do just the back. I have put this off way too long though and they are getting bad. Also after having all of this done how long should I expect the brakes to last for? Quote

Wow BMW dealer just quoted me at like $700.00 for rear brakes and I assumed it would be the same for the TGP. Good to hear that its cheaper for a W-body car. Quote
brocno2454 Posted April 8, 2008 Author Report Posted April 8, 2008 I was talking to the guy today and he said he thinks he can bring it all in for under 350 and that is with using the one step above oem brake pads and rotors. Does this sound like a good deal? Quote
GP1138 Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Are we serious?? I could spend $120 and an afternoon all told and have my rear brakes done. :!: Quote
brocno2454 Posted April 8, 2008 Author Report Posted April 8, 2008 Keep in mind this includes labor and front pads and rotors. I work 6 days a week and live in a apartment complex that doesnt allow you to work on things so I would rather not hassle with doing it myself. I just want to make sure it sounds like a good deal with labor. Quote

Most apartment complexes don't allow auto repair but most won't say anything about it, especially if you do it on the weekend and don't make a mess. Quote
brocno2454 Posted April 9, 2008 Author Report Posted April 9, 2008 Yeah I wish mine was that way they get all bent out of shape. My starter went out in my jimmy and I started to change it because I wasn't paying a tow bill to get it done somewhere. They came out in the middle and told me if I didn't stop that they would evict me because after all it is in the lease. This was on a sunday the manger came from a different town where she lives just to do this. So I had the starter out and the new starter in my hands and still had to get it done somewhere else. After that I try not to do anything. Heck I had to get written permission from her to change a battery in the parking lot. Parents live to far away or I would take to their place and do it. Plus working six days a week has made it so I have accepted the fact that I will have to have my work done my a local mechanic. I just want to make sure he is charging a fair rate. What it would take me to do brakes time wise is probably more than it would for him with having lift and that fact he does this stuff all day every day. Quote

I guess $350 isn't bad for a 4 wheel brake job at a shop. Quote

Since when have most auto shops used only high quality replacement parts? Quote
