shadow
The emergency brake pedal on my car just goes to the floor and back loose. It is not connected to any cable so I assume it snapped? is this a major job to have done laborwise? Thanks Chris

mfewtrail
Are you sure it's no longer connected? Read over this by the way. http://w-body.com/service/brakes-parkbrakelever.html
Pontiac6KSTEAWD
Dont forget this is a pump to set parking brake. You dont just pump it once, you pump it till its firm, then the parking brake is on. Mine takes 2 1/2 pumps to fully engage parking brake. Night Fury
Threw some WD-40 on the mechanism, good as new! It went to the floor, before.

Addicted To Boost
Shadow, we were talking about it on TGPforums a week or two ago.. maybe thats what you're thinking of? After you get your ratchet mechanism working correctly, find out if your cables are bad. When I replaced them on my 89 GP SE, I ended up taking a big snips and cutting my cables off. Putting in the new ones were cake though.
1990lumina
My ratchet is fucked on my car - it only works in the summer time lol...I'm willing to bet yours just need some lube too
shadow
Well It feels like its not connected to anything it just pushes down to the floor and springs back.
Pontiac6KSTEAWD
As mentioned befor, when you push it down, and let it spring back up, did you repeat the process? Mine take 2 1/2 full pushes to get it to engage fully. Also, when you push the first time, does the parking brake light stay on, or turn off? Addicted To Boost
Well It feels like its not connected to anything it just pushes down to the floor and springs back. Remove the assembly from the car and spray the whole assembly with WD-40 or PB and work the pedal for a while. The ratchet will start to work after a bit, it is just all the old grease in there gumming up the mechanism.
shadow
does the parking brake light stay on, or turn off? No light comes on. I will look at it better tomorrow and spray with WD 40 if needed. Thanks Chris
Pontiac6KSTEAWD
If the light is coming on, it sounds like you arent used to the idea of "pump to set". 1) Push brake pedal down to the floor 2) Let it spring back up 3) Push brake pedal down to the floor 4) Let it spring back up Repeat process until it feels like its grabbing Warning, if the parking brake hasnt been used in awhile, theres a chance that the calipers will seize. I made sure to drive mine before I used it, and when I finally did use it, and it didn't set properly, I freaked But all I needed was a bit o' LUBE!!! I said NO light is coming on. I looked at it for a few minutes yesterday when I got home. It almost looks like nothings grabbing when I press it just springs back. I see a big gear but the lever looks like it is not touching the gear? I wish I could explain better sorry thanks for your patience with me. Addicted To Boost
You will need to do this then: Well It feels like its not connected to anything it just pushes down to the floor and springs back. Remove the assembly from the car and spray the whole assembly with WD-40 or PB and work the pedal for a while. j_mezz
Yeah, it sounds like when you step on it, you don't hear it ratchet. Definitely sounds like removing it and cleaning\oiling it will help.
shadow
Update...Well I didnt remove it but I sprayed wd40 as much as I could. The gear actually moves now and I hear the cable in the back but the pedal just springs back. No brake light or anything? Seems the gear moves but does not catch and just comes back? I feel like its almost there but still not working
