KrazyCutlass1995
i was thinking its about time for my tranny fluid and filter to be changed , i dont know how long ago this has been since it has last been done either =/ ... and i was wondering if it would be ok if i was to use some synthetic tranny fluid such as b&m trick shift ? i run pretty hard at times and dont wanna break anything ... or should i stick to something like maxlife ? my tranny i think has same as motor which is about 152k miles... thanks
Redfox340
With that many miles and no history of service, I would aviod sythetic / syn blends all together at this moment. I would drop the pan in this situtation and change the filter instead of a flush. Once the pan drop is completed and driven for about 10K miles and see no deteriation of the tranny, then go ahead and do a complete flush. - Erik
KrazyCutlass1995
at that point in time use syn ? or normal fluid? if it works like it should after 10k miles
Redfox340
After the pan drop, and everything still turing, then you can consider a semi-synthetic fluid after 10K. The only reason for synthetic better wear properties at a newer tranny age. It's better (like motor oil) when its in it's prime... if there are ANY leaks, they'll increase due to smaller molecule size. - Erik

mdelorie
I used some B&M at about 200 000 kms.. and it caused nothing but trouble... slipping like mad... it was awful. I got it flushed and the problem disappeared. Stick to the GM stuff.
KrazyCutlass1995
cool , thanks alot .... no harm by running this kinda oil tho right? lol
mdelorie
as in permanent damage? I don't think so, since the tranny's been fine after I got rid of the B&M stuff. But I singlehandedly blame it for all my transmission trouble.

Robby1870
Well.. 20W50 seems awful thick. But I'm in Canada. Yeah, thats very thick, 10W-30 is the way to go, 5W-30 is recommended by GM Robby
