Dark Ride
Some of you may remember my thread about the trans problems I had in the lumina after I put a new (used from friend ) trans in it. Anyway, so its almost dead, third gear is starting to go too. So i managed to find an old 3300 out of a 92 - 93 Cutlass Ciera complete with trans and subframe. The belhousing is the same on the trans and it looks very similar to the 4t60 off my old Grand Prix. So I'm curious what would be necessary to swap this in instead as I know this one is good. I understand that the trans needs a signal for TCC Lockup but I could control that with a simple switch I think, I will be the last owner, so I don't care what I have to do to make it work. My Lumina has the OBD 1.5 Wiring Harness. Also would it be that difficult to put the 3300 in there instead since that motor has barely over 100 K? Thanks, Mitch
ManicMechanic
I'm pretty sure the mounts on a A body are different.

93CutlassSupreme
I'm pretty sure the mounts on a A body are different. This, along with the fact that the 3.3L is a DOG I wouldn't bother.
19Cutlass94
Just swap in another 4t60 and be doen with it. Unless you plan on doing something else. like a 3800 swap or something..
Dark Ride
does a 4t60 Trans need a signal from the ECM?

MonteCarloDude
Not sure if your talking about the Eletric one or vacume one what yeae lumina are we talking well thats what the E in 4T60-E means. so if he means the 4T60 he must be talking about the old one. Dark Ride
the 4t60-e on the obd 1.5 cars still have a vacuum modulator, does the 4T60, the one used on OBD 1 cars need any signal from the ECM other than for TCC Lockup. I'm totally broke, so a free transmission is a free transmission, and I can switch the TCC to the interior.
19Cutlass94
4t60-e is electronically controlled. The 4t60 is vaccum controlled.

Dark Ride
Will a 4t60 (the non-electronic one) work without being plugged into the ECM, I'm trying to figure out if this trans will shift itself with just vacuum or what I need to do to make this work. My understanding is that the plug on the front of the 4t60 (the trans off that ciera) just tells the computer what gear its in, the only thing the computer controls is the TCC lockup. Dark Ride
c'mon, I know that somebody knows the answer. I'd really like to know because I can't afford to get another tranny for this car and this one is free.
19Cutlass94
if your car came with a 4t60-e you MUST replace with a 4t60-e. If you put a vaccum controlled transmission in place of a electronic controlled trnasmission, your ECM will not like that at all and you will run into problems.
