Hello to All who reads this. I am new to the this site, I just recently purchased a 1994 Cutlass Supreme Convertible, and have just about got it in very good Condition. It has been running great, it just hit 100,000 miles. But one day without any warning I got in it and Drove down the road and then a loud clicking noise started. I recently jacked it up to see if I could find the problem, but the sound is coming from the tranny even when the car is in park, but with me spinning the wheels. It seem to be coming more from the passenger side and It almost seems as if the axle is not in place or a bearing or something is bad in that area. The funny thing is the tranny still works great. I can drive it normally but You just hear that extremely loud noise. I am hoping that someone has run into this problem before and can maybe advice me on what to do.. Thanks..

BUMP...

It's funny you mentioned this, because my '94 cutlass (130,xxx) has had this occasional clicking for about a year now...

I've got a "clicking" noise under acceleration that doesn't appear to be coming from the engine. It's got me completely stumped because I can't find exactly what's causing it. At first I thought it was because the trans was under filled after a trans filter & fluid change. I ended up having to add 8 quarts of trans fluid before the reservoir was full, and then it stopped sounding like it was going to explode. I've been monitoring my trans fluid level ever since, it hasn't been losing any fluid, and it's a nice healthy red color. I can't find a reason why it just occasionally starts ticking. Sometimes it happens after a stop, sometimes it happens after coasting...hell it's just random. Drives me freaking crazy...

if it happens when the car is stopped and when it's in park it can't be the parking prawl. it sounds like it might be something with the torque converter or the pump inside the trans. but it might not even be those two if the sound dosn't increase with engine rpm.

Yes if the car is stopped with the wheels on the ground, correct there is no noise, but as soon as you start moving then the noise starts. When I mentioned that the noise starts, with it in being in park and still clicking, that was with the wheels off of the ground.

Where and what is the parking prawl?

i see. the parking prawl is inside the trans and it keeps the kar from moving when you put the car in park. it locks up the transmission so it dosn't move.
