shadow Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 I noticed sometimes my TGP seems to bang out of overdrive. The car drives and shifts fine but if I press the gas all of a sudden at times I feel a bang out of overdrive. Is it just the way these things shift with age? Checked the fluid and it looks clean and red. Car gets up to speed smooth as butter. Chris Quote
GP1138 Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 10 to 1 it's a bad motor mount. Check your dogbones and your lower mounts, one under the transmission, one under the pass. side of the motor. Quote

I have had this problem with prior cars and this was the answer. Thanks Quote

shadow Posted March 19, 2008 Author Report Posted March 19, 2008 I am gonna wait on getting this fixed for now but when I do decide to get it done is it a cheap fix? Didn't cost that much when I had it done on my brothers ford Taurus. Quote
ns87 Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 On my N/A 3.1 it was fairly easy to do myself, so that leads me to believe it should be a cheap fix to pay for. Quote
rockfangd Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 definately tranny mount or dogbones Quote
shadow Posted March 22, 2008 Author Report Posted March 22, 2008 definately tranny mount or dogbones Yeah I bet the mounts on my TGP are original. I am gonna have them changed when I have the water pump done eventually. I am gonna drive it the way it is for the time being. Oh Btw....will driving with the bad mounts cause any other damage? Quote
shadow Posted March 25, 2008 Author Report Posted March 25, 2008 Mechanic states motor mount in my car will be like $450.00 in labor not including parts? Says the labor book says 6 hours? Quote
ns87 Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Oh god. Unless your mechanic will do both the transmission mount and the motor mount for that price, walk away. The lower motor and trans mount cost around ~$100 in parts. All I used was a metric socket set and a two $20 autozone jacks. Quote
Addicted2bass Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Sounds like a rip off to me....is this a mechanic you know or just some joe shmoe auto shop? Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 For what its worth, a new lower motor mount costs $40 new at Napa. I'm not sure how much a trans mount is, but that mechanic is definitely a rip off. Quote

I would love to do this myself but dont I need to lift the engine to put on the mount? Seriously if I by 2 jack stands can I do this job myself? Anyone have a scan of the chilton repair guide to do this repair? I appreciate your input guys. Chris Quote
ismellrealbad Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 just jack up the car, support the motor, and unbolt it. Quote
ns87 Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Yeah you can do it yourself with two jacks. I did it in my school parking lot. It wasn't fun having everyone stare at me , but you don't need an engine lift Quote
