w-bodys_are_the_best
Hey I know this topic has probably been beat to death, but the search feature sucks and I couldn't find anything I was loooking for. I'm going to be starting on my 91 Cutlass Supreme International. I've got ahold of another motor, a PMIII unit from a 91 regal, and all that I need now is the clutch slave cylinder. I am going to be moving to a place with a 3 stall garage that is literally 5 feet from a local junkyard with a lot of w's and boxy caprices (I just swapped my 86 from a 4.3 to a 350) I am getting ahold of an engine stand when I move for the LQ1. I'm going to go ahead and do the timing belt and components while it's out on the stand, that way if I have to do it down the road I have an idea of what I'm doing when it's sitting in the engine compartment. I'd like to do the clutch too, but can't afford it, and it felt really strong when I drove it. I've been quoted between $400-500 for the belt and components by the local GM dealer. Do you guys recommend going to the dealer for original ACDELCO parts? Are there any other brands say from advance, napa, or autozone that are cheaper, and are they any good? White93z34
As far as components go, I got mine from the dealer, I think the total was around $321 as I recall, however I also get decent discount at my local Chevrolet dealer. honestly, If the timing belt looks OK I would MUCH rather have a new clutch myself as doing the timing belt service on car is easier then changing a clutch. Also, look out for that slave cyl assembly, that is one EXPENSIVE part right there! I do believe NAPA carries the components as well, however I've never used them myself.
