Psych0matt
what year? if its before '94, any 3.4 before '94 should have the same tranny, and if you have a '94 or '95, any '94/'95 trans should work just fine. My tranny is out of a 95 GP. As far as I know this is all you need to know, but I did this like 3 or 4 years ago, so I'm not 100% sure any more

Psych0matt
the gearings were slightly different I think. That's why I said I wasn't sure. It's possible that at the time I didn't know nearly as much as I do now, and figured since the engines were different then the trannys would be too. Gosh, sorry for trying to be helpful, you could have just corrected it

Psych0matt
it's cool However, why is this in the vert section anyways?
kaptnjack
Thanks for the responses. I apologize if I posted in the wrong forum. I am rescueing a 93 CS vert and this is the first Olds I have owned since 1980. I am still learning that some of my questions may be more appropriate in other sections and are not vert specific. 1993 CS vert 3.4L 4t60E code CW
Crazy K
you will want a 91-93 transmission from a 3.4 car. a 94 or 95 might be usable if you dig some re-pinning, or if you popped the cover and used the harness from the bad transmission in the 94-95 transmission. all the 91-95 3.4 trannies (probably 96 as well) have a 3.43 final drive ratio. the trannies used in 3.1 and 3100 cars have a 3.33 final drive ratio. I do not know if one transmission is stronger than another, or if they can successfully be cross swapped without shift or limp mode issues. yes. this belongs our of the vert section. otherwise... welcome! kaptnjack
Good Information.....thank you. I also googled up.... Here is the interchange for the transmission you are trying to replace in the Oldsmobile: CUTLASS 93 A.T.; 4T60E, 6-207 (3.4L) GRAND PRIX 93 A.T.; 4T60E, 6-207 (3.4L) LUMINA CAR 93 A.T.; 4T60E, 6-207 (3.4L) What that means is that the ONLY transmission that will be a direct-fit for yours will be from either a Cutlass, Grand Prix or Lumina, 1993 ONLY and the vehicle must be equipped with the 4T60E and a 3.4L engine. In the industry we call that a 'tight' interchange because it is a one-year-only part. for what it's worth
patgizz
FWIW all 91-93 trannies i've used interchanged with each other with no electrical issues. wiring changed for 94 as well as some other crap(pulse width modulation solenoids and whatnot) which is why the 94-95 units do not interchange. if you plug a 91-93 tranny into a 94-95 harness you get 3rd and 4th gear only and no lockup. kaptnjack
Ok....it was decided that a full rebuild of the existing oem tranny was the way to go. The cases have been split and cleaned and the rebuild is complete with the exception of the pump. The pump and impellor chewed itself up and is unusable,,,the pump body and cover are chewed up and junk. (what causes this?) Here's the problem....cant find a replacement pump. The tranny shop has tried every supplier in 200 miles and tried 5 pumps from three suppliers and they are all wrong and nobody can seem to locate the right one. The pump that came out of my tranny has two switches and no bleed valve. All the replacements offered by various suppliers have a bleed valve and the fluid ports/channels are different. The numbers on the oem pump casing halves are 8651507 and 8651508. I am not totally sure becuse a google search offers only a couple of results but....it appears the pump assembly GM part number "may" be 24200574 If I could locate a good pump that would be grat...If I could locate good pump and cover casing I could put a kit in it so...there are a couple of options. Does anyone have any experience with this type issue? Anybody have a source for this part? Any help would be appreciated.
