does it need to be plugged in? just curious why it was unplugged to begin with.

 

Yes, it needs to be plugged in for emissions and driveability reasons... Sometime when the purge solenoid fails, it rapidly fires, so people just unplug it instead of replacing the solenoid.

There is another plug that looks like this one below the coil packs FYI so if thats the part your reffering too well its plugged in. This one is extra.
