ManicMechanic
What's the quickest it's been done? I am kind of looking to swap the engine in my parts car into my main car...It just had the head gaskets, timing belt, alternator and all that jazz done... Can it be done in under a day with hand tools, cherry picker and two people?
Psych0matt
under a day? pushing it, but surely possible. three people might make the difference
1990lumina
If both parties have done their homework and know what to do (read the manual a few times beforehand) and have all the SSTs (if any of required) before starting the job I'm sure it can be done in a day. Start at sunrise and take a few small breaks and I'm sure it'll be done by the evening.
dohc v6
Humm, a SWAP in a day. I think a swap would take a little longer. If you mean swaping in a new motor, just replacing the old one, yeah no problem. In fact all you have to do is, pull the pass wheel off, take axel out, disconnect the motor mount, disconnect the front mount and disconnect the troque converter bolts, unless you plan on replacing the tranny too. But if you are doing a complete swap from a, lets say, 3100-3.4DOHC, then no freaking way.

Actually one leaks like a sieve...LOL! But it still runs great. Letting a friend have it for his help in swapping engines. I'm leaving as much as possible on the engine for the swap. Accessories, wiring harness, ect.
Crazy K
I can't even answer that... and I plan to do similar on several cars real soon, and me and pschomatt just did the same on his tgp. I think you are gonna quickly discover problems that will drag out your intended quick swap into a drawn out process... i know it's always that way with me. Psych0matt
Yeah, it took Ken and I the better part of the day saturday (1pm-2am) to pull it all out. I'd imagine if we were careless we could have done it quicker, but that was pretty quick. I'll keep tabs on how long it takes to put back in as well, but I imagine it'll be about the same amount of time

When I did front brakes on my Lumina I ended up snapping a rusted wheel stud while putting the whels back on (snapped at around 80ft/lb I'm guessing) so I had to og buy studs and remove them from the hub and replace. ManicMechanic
Well, the parts car is originally from VA but never driven in bad weather and my car is an original Texas car, the engine has been out of the parts car recently so I don't anticipate TOO many problems. patgizz
when i put the 3.4 in the 94 euro i drove it in with the 3.1 at about 7am and drove it out with the 3.4 at about 11pm. same one day deal with the 3400 but had that in and running in about 4 hours. it can be done if you have everything you need on hand, all the proper tools, and are not slow or lazy.
