Muffler Question

I have a CS International(3.4L DOHC) and was thinking about keeping the stock exhaust system(since I just replaced it) but replacing the stock mufflers with two 2 1/4" Cherry Bombs and some chrome tips. Somehow I think that would end up being obnoxiously loud, though. It would be great if somebody could give me an opinion.

if you insist on the cherry bomb brand, i think you should use the cherry bomb turbo instead of their classic glass packs. i think those would be too loud and create too much interior resonances.

but really, the 3.4 sounds great with alot of aftermarket mufflers. you cant go wrong with magnaflows!

Mind you budget is an issue, which is why I have been radiating towards cherry bomb glass packs. I just would like to avoid them getting me pulled over for violating noise by-laws haha.

If you want to avoid a noise ticket, then definately avoid the glass packs! The turbo will likely be louder than stock, but shouldn't be too bad.

IMHO, Magnaflow mufflers have a wonderful sound, and seem to be a decent volume until you really get on the throttle. Then they definately get louder, but still have a wonderful tone.

Keep in mind that this is my experience with engines other than the LQ1, so YMMV.

I have cherry bomb glass packs on my 3.4 and love the sound, though it is a little raspy. never got a ticket but its was pretty loud espicaly with out a cat. I would post a sound clip but its not running and wont be for a while.

I hate the cherry bomb turbo! I put them on my car for 20 minutes... just long enough to drive to the parts store to get different mufflers. I was ashamed of how raspy and ricy it sounded I contemplated putting on my flashers and driving at 10 mph so I didn't make much noise. Spend the estra $ and get flowmaster or something better. I actually put two dynomax (autozone brand) 3.1 mufflers on my car and just turned the left one upside down. I actually love the sound as it has a nice low rumble and growls when you hit the gas. They also come with lifetime warranty. Keep in mind my car is a 3.1 though.

My muffler has a perfect hole in it. I mean PERFECT. I wouldn't mind a BIT louder, but that will come with time... It really sounds good.

Well today I got two new mufflers put in... drum roll please?

I went with two Borla Turbo's and it is a really nice sounding system. It stays pretty quiet at all times, even when cruising(no drone) and it only gets loud when you really sink into the gas. Not to mention they were surprisingly cheap. The shop quoted me $300 plus tax to put in two Flowmaster 40s and that was a little out of my price range so I went with the Borla Turbo's which were $230 plus tax. I don't regret it for a second, it sounds amazing.

I was going to recommend Borla but then you said price was an issue.

IIRC Just about any Borla is more expensive than Flowmasters, so in my opinion that doesn't make any sense at all.

The shop is one of the biggest muffler shops in the city and they have lots of stock. Nobody had bought the Borla's for two years so they just wanted to get rid of them. From my googling the price of Flowmaster 40s are $90 and Borla Turbo's are $110... so it isn't like they gave them away for free. They're both in that somewhat affordable range.

Edit: Here is a link to the mufflers they sold me, I will try and take a picture tonight in the dark and if it doesn't turn out good I will take some tomorrow morning.

Yeah, I lucked out by getting them so cheap. I'll take some pics when I go out for lunch. I don't have any fancy tips yet, because I'm on such a tight budget but after my next paycheck I'll go back.

Those are some shots that I took after grabbing some Taco Bell. I think it looks pretty good, considering it doesn't even have proper tips on yet. The best part is the sound, it is really quiet until you get into it, then it gets nice and loud.
