Psych0matt
So, got the engine and tranny all pulled out, ready to be cleaned and everything fun like that. I have a bit of money to spend (not a ton, but enough to replace some things) and am starting a list, hopefully to order/buy things in another week or so. Feel free to add to the list, or ask about anything -Fuel line O-rings -Oil drive O-ring -stainless bolts for turbo (and some other stainless bolts) -some rubber hose, since it's cheap. I'll just redo whatever when I see it -probably some new wire loom -new lower motor mount, mine was completely destroyed I'm sure I'm forgetting some things, but I feel like crap and cant think right now
Bake82
Think about Subframe mounts and bolts? It would cause you to need an alignment I'm sure, but IMO much easier to do without engine. Only an extra $200 from GM.
Psych0matt
yeah, i thought about mounts, not necessarily bolts. If I have the $ I wanted to get them, but that can be done in the future, even if it's a little harder.
Robby1870
Good time for plugs and wires if they are old, maybe check injector resistance too, since you are replacing the O-rings
Psych0matt
Tentative list as far as what I need immidiately: -Motor mount $35 -Hoses and clamps $10 -new serp belt $20 -plugs $15 -cleaner $10 or so I also need to find out where to get some stainless bolts for all the turbo/exhaust things, and perhaps header wrap. If they have the wrap at the parts store I'll price it, but I've seen it a few places online for around $35 for a 1"x50' roll
Robby1870
Ace Hardware stores have stainless bolts, I believe.
Crazy K
if it is open, I'm going to check at truevalue in pendleton.
Psych0matt
Just got off the phone with K, picking me up some bolts, so that's a big check mark, since those were the one thing I wasn't sure where to find.
Crazy K
Got them from TrueValue hardware. here's what you "should" get, for the turbo in and out flanges only. (stainless steel all) 6x M8 x 1.25 3/4" $1.25 each 4x M8 x 1.25 1" $1.00 each 10 M8 split washers $.45 each here's what I got: (stainless steel all) 5x M8 x 1.25 3/4" $1.25 each (only had 5 in stock ) 6x M8 x 1.25 1" $1.00 each (I can cut and an extra does not hurt) 10 1/2" inch split washers $.12 each the M8 and the 1/2" washers are the SAME FUCKING WASHER!!!!!!! for 1/4 the price!!!! these should work perfectly I hope! 5speedz34
If you're going to replace the lower mount. I would replace them all (other engine mounts/trans). I would do other maintenance stuff to, fuel filter, pcv, etc.
Psych0matt
well, all that stuff is on the list, but I am semi limited on funds, so I'm focusing on stuff that I need to do when the engine is out. I have two tranny mounts currently, and I'll just reuse the better one (looked pretty good). Top motor mounts will be done in the future, as well as PCV, fuel, oil, etc. I mostly need to get it back together and running because I am moving back to Mi in may/june
5speedz34
Does the 3.1 have 2 lower mounts like the 3.4 does?
Psych0matt
I don't believe so, pretty sure its the tranny mount, motor mount, and then the top ones. 3.4 has two lower, 3.1 has two upper
5speedz34
My bad, well it sounds like you got everything squared away!
mfewtrail
Hmm, I thought I posted here last night? Anyways, the 3.1 only has one lower engine mount. Autozone has a lower engine mount for sale on their website(not available in the store) for about $30 or so. It's a solid mount. I haven't used one of these yet, but I imagine they're just as good as the solid Balkamp mounts from NAPA. Balkamp seems to throw all their mounts in the wrong boxes anwyays. It took three tries if I remember correctly for them to send me the proper solid mount in 2005 or so.
Crazy K
trans mount looks good. we have two to choose from anyhow. only the lower engine mount is urgent. I would poly the dog bones, but that can wait. so... valve cover gaskets, distributor drive gaskets, fuel injector O-rings, pvc hose, injector O-rings, various filters, plugs, engine mount solid or fluid? I thought of something else but can't remember
