Chancho
Im doing a top swap (uim/lim) on a 3100 and i have a few questions, would it be better to use a 00 on up 3100 top end or go for the 96-99 mini van 3400 top end, which is bigger or more efficent, also what gaskets would i use with each, the 00 on up 3100 i would assume i would just use those gaskets but would the egr fit, i know the 96-99 3400 used the same egr so it should be bolt on and the 3400 came with a larger TB... any help would be great thanks
Euro
Don't quote me on this, but IIRC the 01+ 3100 top end and the 3400 top ends are equal in the forms of performance?
Chancho
thats what i thought another q, Would this be a good time to change the headgaskets, or are they not prone to going bad, i have 150k on a
Rdrckt_92
since you are in there it would be a bad idea to go ahead and change them. It might be a good idea to go ahead and change the LIM gasket too if it hasnt been done already
Chancho
the whople reason why im doing this swap is because the lim took a shit on me a couple iof days ago, luckly gm designed these to be an external leak on most occations, so i can drive on it so long as i monitor the oil, dont want any coolant in there, but i really need these gasket part numbers, i have herd that felpro makes metal gaskets, how well do those work
GP1138
I did this on my old '95 GP, and used the newer style AC Delco gaskets and never had a leak. People will swear by Fel-Pro, but I'd stick my nose in and say I trust ACD just fine. The van intake is the one you want, any generation 3400 or newer 3100. The reason is the EGR mounts up and down, not straight back like the car intakes do. This is how the EGR adapter for our 3-valve EGRs mount, and they were designed with this intake, and with our EGR exhaust pipe. If you can find a van intake with a cover, that's even cooler, because your engine is technically not a 3400, and the engines with the cover usually don't have any script on the plenum.
