Seems legit to me... the higher stall converter will let you up into the power band sooner, and the higher final drive will give you higher revs per mile, again keeping the motor higher in the power band.

 

Don't know if that really equates to 1.5 seconds off the 1/4th, but it certainly sounds very plausible.

He was running 16.6's to start? I'd ask what else was wrong with the car... the worst my car has ever run was a 16 flat. That being said if this mod did that much for him and his car, just imagine what it COULD do for a car in decent running shape.

I dunno much about final drive ratios and all that, but the shift kit and low stall torque converter probably had a lot to do with his improvements.
