My new 5.25" Components and new amp Install pics

I installed some Boston S50's 5.25's and a US acoustics USX-2080 amp today in place of my Crossfire CFA142 amp and Fosgate 5.25's.

I always like the crossfire amp, has done extremely well for me. Used it to run my first set of subs (Kicker I12's) and now the fosgates. But w/ it only putting out 35w/ channel, it wasn't enough for me. The old amp/speaker combo sounded great...but just not loud enough.....

So, i upgraded. btw, the fosgates and the amp are FS....PM w/ offer.

Old set up of the fosgates in the drivers door.

The fosgate tweets had an excellent set up that allowed me to pop them right into the door......took 20 seconds to install

...the Bostons weren't soo easy....they didn't come w/ a ring/snap/mount thing.

So I had to jerry rig a setup....

I set them in the stock port, found a random POP can in my dads shop and cut a strip out of it and glued the tweet to it and strapped it down.....

....yeah, it is ghetto fabulous...but it works great and is very sturdy.

Now for the amp install

I had the Crossfire under my drives seat...so that is where i put the new amp.

LOL on the slick comment.

Yeah, I do have a few things:

Move the crossover's off the doors and into the interior. Seen way too many failure's with the opening and shutting of doors on those crossover's.

The tweet, you gotta do what you gotta do. Instead of a pop can, a backstrap would work 100x better. It's thicker, and already has holes. That, or reuse the RF tweeter mounts.

I'd personally not use the seat bolt as a ground. Not only is the seat bolt not going down all the way, which is potentially dangerous, but the fact that the bolts are zinc coated is not allowing you to get the best potential ground as possible. Use a self-tapping screw to get a hole, then use a bigger screw with a lock (star) washer to hold it in place.

I would use spade terminal's at the amp's instead of going bare-wire right into it. Less chance of the wire's slipping out, and possibly shorting out something.

Otherwise, probably sounds pretty good. Boston makes quality speakers.

I woulda wireloomed the wires and zip tied them down so when you move the seat it dont cut the wires. looks like thats about to happen at any time.

I have used seat bolts for grounds, that should not be an issue.

your amp is only as good as your rcas. for the mids/highs spend a hundred bucks on some. best way to spend money on your system IMO.

looking good man! i like it! i was thinkin about puttin mine in the same spot, i wasnt feeling like pulling the seats out at all. i bet that does sound quite a bit better too!

soo....quick question. what is that vent thingy under the seat? is that for rear heat and cool? or what? i circled it in the picture...

it is if you want heat in the back....but nobody rides back there anyways....and that heat duct doesn't pump out much air at all.

that is what i was thinkin it was, i just wasnt completely sure...

  • 2 weeks later...

What series RF's were they?

Wait wasnt there a thread earlier about the equipment? Almost looks like you may have downgraded the speaker but upgraded the amp...
