dohc v6
I got these GXP calipers and I would like to get them powdercoated or anodized, not sure yet. but inorder to do that I have to take them apart. How do I get the pistions out, and if I get them out, can I reuse the seals. I dont like the red color, I am thinking like a gloss black, not to sure yet. Crazy K
when I messed with calipers, you could take then apart by applying compressed air to the caliper to pop the piston out. I think you can reuse the seal if they are good (are these new?) you may want to determine if they need lubrication and what to lube them with upon reassembly. and note: DO NOT stick your fingers in between the piston and the caliper when you apply air, IF you like being able to dial phone numbers. Use a block of wood to prevent damage.

GJD5
I've gotten calipers powdercoated several times and never took the piston out. The seals can handle the temps. The powdercoating shop should take them off(or other areas not needed coated like threads) with a special kind of tape for those kind of temps. Here's another tip free of charge, if you do happen to get powdercoating in threads. Use Carburetor cleaner and a Q-tip. The carb cleaner will take it right off!
