Hairdo12 Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Getting all four I would say that is a good deal. Make sure when you get them; you check every drilled hole however. Sometimes cheaper drilled rotors will have the holes not spaced correctly and they will go through or partially through the fins in the center of the rotor destroying the structural integrity. Also a cheaper rotor with all that extra machining I personally think is very prone to fractures and I would be hesitant to use them. I'm am a paranoid person when it comes to that stuff however and they could/are probably safe to use. Quote
Stevo Posted February 25, 2008 Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 Good Point. So perhaps the first question would be ... Where were these made? China/Mexico would be a bad answer. USA/Canada would be good. I just found this online. http://www.irotors.com/storefrontprofiles/default.aspx?sfid=149795 They say they zinc plate them on site which means technically they are 'made' in California but where they were really made could be anywhere. Since I drive year round, Summer and Winter. Would buying a drilled/slotted rotor be a bad idea? Quote
per0781 Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 get brembo oem replacements and call it a day. Quote
toms92gpse Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 I got mine off of ebay about 1 year ago. They have held up really well. Mine was a little more for all 4 but they also came with the pads. I got my from R1concepts on ebay. I've talked to alot of other people that have owned them and they all seem very pleased with them. Stevo Posted February 26, 2008 Author Report Posted February 26, 2008 Brembo would be nice but to be able to buy them let alone afford them would be even nicer. Their site is a mystery and downloading the so called 240 meg catalogue is just a long ass download of their website. You plug in the make and model of the car and it asks for a Brembo reference code. If anyone has an idea about this please share. I posted in another thread asking about the Baer upgrade and it ended up a discussion of Gen1's which I don't own. So that went no where. Quote

wildbill Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 They look decent. Slotted- Crossdrilled- Keep us updated, I will be upgrading my brakes this year too. I would also recommend upgrading to stainless brake lines, if you haven't already. Quote
Stevo Posted February 27, 2008 Author Report Posted February 27, 2008 For shits and giggles I went to Napa and they had drilled and slotted rotors, 4 for $1000. I just looked at the guy and he said to me... "I have been here for 10 years and have only sold 1 set." I was like "No no fuckin wonder." "Think Napa needs to re-examine their pricing" He laughed and said. "Yeah I really think so." Edit: The link above is for regular discs. Quote
Stevo Posted February 27, 2008 Author Report Posted February 27, 2008 brembo drilled OR slotted (not both) $1000cdn fuck that. No rotor is worth $250 MAYBE $70-100 with that ammount of detail but not $250 before shipping. I'd rather spend money on a Baer kit. Quote
Stevo Posted February 28, 2008 Author Report Posted February 28, 2008 Baer has OEM sized rotors for the front only but they are only listing 2002 GrandPrix 'GT' =\ $184 a pair. Not bad. Just need the arse end for the same and I am SOLD! I wish their Catalogue was completed because their W-body list is rather incomplete. Like for example they state 97-03 Regal GranPrix and MonteCarlo/Impala for the upgrade kit. The downside to Baer calipers would be having to replace the rotors/pads as you would have to wait shipping time in case something went wrong. Quote
Stevo Posted February 28, 2008 Author Report Posted February 28, 2008 UPDATE: I was looking into upgrading to F-Body brakes but considering you cannot do this with crosslace wheels I am skeptical that my winter wheels would work with this setup if one were to go with the idea that steel wheels are the most restrictive for spacing. If anyone can confirm or deny this that would be great. Quote
hotrodolds Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 They've even got 'em for MY car! $170 for the set of four. That is a deal. Quote

Stevo Posted March 6, 2008 Author Report Posted March 6, 2008 ok ... this is what has happened. I'm not getting straight answers from anyone selling drilled/slotted rotors in regards to manufacturer (of the questionable products) and shipping charges. Also reading as much as possible into drilled and slotted rotors has generated some interesting findings in that what I want to achieve for purchasing drilled and slotted in that it is the opposite of what I wanted in a car part. So what is happening is that I am going back to regular rotors. I wanted to do the camaro front brake upgrade but again no feedback is possible as to the use of steel rims. No one can give a straight answer if the upgrade will allow 16" Steel Rims to fit over the Camaro caliper upgrade. I got to do the brakes all around on my car and I can't fuck around waiting for companies to ignore my requests for info. Their loss... not mine. As for anyone buying Drilled and/or Slotted rotors. Unless you race your vehicle, they are useless from what I have been reading. These items require constant inspection and faster replacement. They are not the same as a constant surface rotor which can be installed and run longer. Driving habits and pads dictate how the rotor performs or lasts. For what I want, I think a standard quality rotor is sufficient to put on my vehicle for stock fit and longevity. Flashy promises of a company's claims of performance which only can benefit drivers in perfect circumstances which never exist are not for me. Quote
