Night Fury
So my mother's 2006 Monte Carlo will not warm up until she starts driving it, no matter how long it sits and runs. It is a 3500 V6. Whats up?
Psych0matt
thermostat? bad sensor?
Brian P
what's the longest that it has sat and run without warming up? Are you basing this on the temp gage, or heater function, etc?

Like he said, what are you checking? and give us as much info as possible. That's like saying: "My car won't start, tell me what's wrong with it right now!" my answer would be "Is it plugged in?" Night Fury
She says 15-20 minutes. Hang on.
Night Fury
I asked her if the temp gauge rises, and she says she doesn't notice. I told her to notice next time. she said "Ok already!!!!"
Brian P
LOL!! She's probably looking for heat when she says "warm up" However the engine will produce more "heat" and warm up quicker when it's being driven, compared to idling in park. Mine warms up fairly quickly in park idling. (well, it used to )

Night Fury
Well she drives it 140 miles a day, so no warranty. She forgot to check. Again. Why did she ask my help?
Crazy K
Well she drives it 140 miles a day, so no warranty. She forgot to check. Again. Why did she ask my help? the female in my life (ie my roomate, nuthin else) is the same. LOL that warning light that says the oil needs changed is completely overlooked by her. everything I borrow the truck... I have to do an oil change!!!! and it's loosing coolant. "the coolant light was on. but it is off now so it is ok." "the coolant light is on again, but it turned off. I think it fixed itself" "How can the coolant be broken? the light is on, but it doesn't smell like it gets hot"    It is probably normal. you might throw some cardboard in front of the radiator for the duration of winter. You need to fiugre out how high the reading on the gauge gets.
89GP_SE
In my experience, my cars never "warm up inside" until I get driving and the coolant is flowing.
GP1138
My car warms up fine in 10 minutes of idling, hot air blowing and everything.
