ranbo108
Hi all, I've been watching this sight and just now have joined. I'm having fun finding a trans for my 95 CS 3.1 and trying to determine just which years will interchange. The few ebay auctions I've seen indicate 93-95 mostly and it seems there all far far away from the Baltimore area. Any hot tips for a fairly savvy mechanic would sure be appreciated. Cheers, Randy PS, Any ThunderMax (Harley) users feel free to ask me a question; I do tech support for Zippers Cycles.
ns87
What you want to look for is a 4T60-e transmission. I think 95 and up had slight wiring changes. But I'm not really sure. Von Kaiser should chime in. He knows all about this stuff
19Cutlass94
The only thing different between OBD1 and OBDII 4T60-E's were ther neutral saftey switches.
3.1cutlass
There are 6 different 4T60-E's. You can use one from a 1994-1996 3100 or 3.4 DOHC. The 1991-1993 4T60-E will not work and neither will one from a caddy.

I would not stick a 3.4 dohc tranny behind a 3.1, as it has a different gear ratio. you should look for a 94 or 95 3100 powered CS, regal, lumina, or GP for Exact swapping. anything else may present compatibility issues. I need to determine what is different between a 94-95 dohc and 91-93 dohc trannys myself.

Not a huge difference. not hugh... but enough that it could cause problems. I would like to try a 3.33 fdr behind a dohc... and see if it is more fuel efficient... if it doesn't get stuck in failsafe limp mode. 19Cutlass94
Any differences is FDR WILL cause a problem with the computer. You have to use one with the same gearing. Therefore if you have a 3100 motor, get a tranny from a 3100. NOT a DOHC.
