ron350 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Who made these intake manifold gaskets? Ran across this today and wondered if the gaskets in the pictures are Felpro or custom made? http://www.dsengine.com/gmgasket/index.html Quote
Crazy K Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 They appear to be FELPRO PERMADRY PLUS. Quote
hotrodolds Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 I just perused their site, and it seems like that would be a fun place to work, and probably a decent place to have work done, too. Quote
Brian P Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 FelPro and Dorman make gaskets like those. Quote
5speedz34 Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 Umm, the first ones in orange are Fel-Pro. The gray black ones look like GM gaskets. The metal reinforced ones look like Fel-pro Permadry. Quote
olds cutlass Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 I repaired mine myself when it had 75K on it. I had a couple of lifters that were ticking real bad due the the gasket failure so i went ahead and replaced all the lifters and push rods while I had it apart. I got the upgraded gasket from a buddy of mine that had an acount with a GM parts distributer. As an additional percaution I used grey rtv silicone on both sides of the gasket on the water ports and in the valley of the block. Those are the areas where mine failed. Seems like I waited a few days so that the RTV would cure before I added coolant back to the system and started it up. Car has 254K on it now and that repair has not failed. He also gave me some GM Seal Tabs. He said that the GM dealerships use these when every they reassemble a motor just in case there is a coolant leak. These seal tabs are a little round waffer that you drop in the radiator and it is suppose to plug any possibel leaks without clogging the system. Quote
93CutlassSupreme Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 You haven't ran into any trouble after replacing the lifters? And, stop-leak is a big nono. Quote
DOHCRagtopguy Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 When I changed the LIM gaskets on the cutty, the stockers were just hard white plastic without anytype of raised material at all around the ports. Man, did they leak bad! I p[ut Fel-pros in, they looked like the first set (orange). Much better, no leaks since. Quote

I don't think Fel-Pro or any other after market manufacture makes any metal reinforced gaskets. Luckily only coolant runs through our intakes and not oil also. Quote
olds cutlass Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I did that repair about 179k miles ago. The lifters now tick for maybe 3 or 4 seconds on a cold morning but thats all. I replaced them all along with the push rods at the time of the repair. I used stock GM roller lifters and I believe the push rods were from race seal. They were a little beefeir than the stock ones.
