pulling the 4t60

I'm in the middle of pulling my tranny to swap in the 5 speed and i really hate working on automatics and cant wait to get this monster of a tranny out of there.

Whats the best way to go about removing it? do i have to drop the hole subframe or can i get away with just droping the drivers side?

Any help/tips would be greatly apreciated

I've pulled quite a few tranny's before but never in a W, this huge subframe really screws things up for me, I'm used to J, N, L bodies with there two small seperate subframes, its cake to do a tranny in those.

I look it over carefully, to try to take it out without dropping the subframe, but couldn't figure it out, so I just dropped it, and believe it or not it wasn't as bad as I thought. Also this way I could get to those things that I've been wanting to, and fix them. So good luck :high5:

I think it was alot easier to just pull the motor with the tranny through the top.

That's what i did. But i'd assume bringing it down you might not have to disconnect near as much shit? Just a guess. I had a cherry picker and it didn't take too long to do through the top. By the 3rd time i swapped out the 4T60 i was getting pretty good at it

thats how i planed to do it but i recently moved and havent braced the rafters in the garage yet to hold the block and tackel to lift the motor and i need this done quickly so i can get my car going again, I've always done every other car out the bottom but now i know to do W's out the top, lol

It will be comming out the top when i put my hybrid in come april. not doing this again its a real PITA.
