I have a base 4dr 1994 chevy lumina with a 3.l L. also can any of you suggest a good muffler that will make it sound good. Thanks
93CutlassSupreme
2 1/4" I believe. A flowmaster 40 will sound great. This Video is 2 flowmaster 40's on a 3.1 Multiport.

93CutlassSupreme
I was just barely able to slip 2 1/4" pipe over my existing exhaust pipe. I highly doubt 1 7/8"

19Cutlass94
2.25 on the DOHC, not the 3100/3.1 Stock 3100/3.1 is 2"O.D. which is about 1 7/8" I.D. http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=EXH&PartNumber=46938&Description=Resonator+%26+Pipe
Hairdo12
It is 2 inches OD all the way from the down pipe through the cat and to the muffler. I had a 2 inch flowmaster once and when I ripped the pipes out to put in the dual exhaust, the euro 3.4 pipes were 2.25 OD then after the Y were 2 inch OD to the mufflers. 19Cutlass94
I believe the 2.8 should be the same size as the 3.
bodeen2007
So i got a 2" o.d with a 1 7/8 i.d. ok thank you. One other question have any of you just straight piped a 3.1 lumina.
mra32
I measured my exhaust with calipers (ZOMG!!) and the O.D. wasnt even 2" And thats with a heavy coating of rust and everything. Does anyone know if the downpipe is the same size too?

You can do it but you will hate it. Mine is pretty close to straight. I have a flowmaster delta force muffler. I will be buying a glass pack to settle it down a bit. Hairdo12
I wouldn't use the ID measurments because that depends on how thick the pipe walls are. The down pipes are terrible when it comes to size. Not only is it rippled, but it gets pretty narrow at some points. I was actually fooled a little when I replaced my cat, because at the end of the down pipe, it actually expands to what you would think would be 2 ID... but its really expanded to 2 OD. I'd almost say the downpipe is only 1 7/8 OD but thats just a guess.
bodeen2007
my plan was to keep the cat and resonator just to get rid of the muffler . Has anybody done that and if you have how does it sound.
Hairdo12
It will sound good. I had the same setup minus the resonator because my car is a 92 and didn't come with one. For my year, before the muffler the pipe went above the monoleaf. There was not alot of slack to play with when cutting the muffler off to reattach a new one. Given you have the resonator, I think yours is routed below the monoleaf so you may have more pipe to work with.
Rdrckt_92
I did that on my '92, I put flowmaster 40's on..It sounds good, it does drone on the highway, and its pretty loud but sounds pretty good. I'll try to get some sound clips up soon
patgizz
just remember. one man's "sounds good" is another man's "fart in a bathtub" i had a flowmaster 40 on my old 94 euro for all of a week before i put the quiet back on. 19Cutlass94
Some parts of the DP are smaller than 1 7/8"
