Brian P
So.... Guys that work at the Dealerships and private shops (with newer vehicles). GM redesigned the LIM gaskets for 3100 and 3400, and I think the 3500 gaskets are the same type of construction too. Have any come back for failure? I replaced my gaskets with these when I reassembled my 3400. 40k miles later, it looks like I have an internal coolant leak. I'm real pissed. Yes I used the new manifold bolts too. Crazy K
please tear down and document! p.s. do you have before pictures of the gasket you used?
BIGBULS
*I* haven't had any comebacks yet (Buick/GMC dealership), nor have I seen a 3500 leak (YET). I have also found out that there are a few simple goof-ups that can be done (namely using too much sealant) that can mimic a LIMG leak, even though the GASKETS are whole. Either way, so far, I have been happy with the newer GM stuff...........
19Cutlass94
I replaced mine with Gm gaskets when I did mine some 40K ago. They seem to be holding up just fine.
Brian P
please tear down and document! p.s. do you have before pictures of the gasket you used? I don't think I took any. I will tear her down sometime next weekend, or during the week after. As far as sealant, only used enough to seal the LIM to the valley, as always. Gaskets were put on dry. mfewtrail
Brian, I haven't seen any leak after the updated gaskets either. I know of at least a few cars that have seen 50K+ miles after the new gaskets were installed(and plenty of others with less mileage and no issues yet). MonteCarloDude
god i am not looking forward to doing my LIM/UIM gaskets when they die on me.
Brian P
But see that's the thing, until a recently I could have said "my gaskets have 40k on them and are holding up great", I was hoping to know of these gaskets lasting the life of the motor, or at least 150k. There's always that chance that it's something besides the gaskets, I'll know once it's apart. This weekend in my spare time I'll be clearing the garage and getting the car inside.
