Guest GrandPrixlover1 Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 Hello everyone, I have just a small problem. My car idles rough more than it used to and I need some opinions. well when my car first idled rough, it was the pcv valve, and I got that replaced, with a new and better one. Problem is it wasn't fitting on there right to where the lip of the rubber connector that fits to the valve was angled away from the valve letting outside air in. Well I went to autozone and bought a hose clamp and put it on and bam problem fixed. Well later on the next day I start her up cold and she's idling rough again. I haven't checked the plugs yet since I've seafoamed the car so I know that can be one possibility, but I was also wondering if there were any others. when I shut the engine off there is a hissing noise from under the hood after the car had been driven a distance (i.e.-20 miles, which is from my dorm to my house). I don't know if this is another vacuum leak, or possible gasket leaking. I'm not losing any antifreeze so I don't know what to think. I'm thinking maybe another possible vacuum leak somewhere else or bad plugs, problem is I don't know really where all to look. Thanks. Quote
ns87 Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 The hissing noise is normal. I think it has to do with the vacuum canister near the front fender. Do you have the 3.4 or the 3.1? I'm not familiar with the 3.4, but 3.1 vacuum lines are very easy to replace. http://www.w-body.com/forum/index.php?topic=61171.msg726378#msg726378 Quote

per0781 Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 i'd check for a vacuum leak. also, clean the MAF, throttle body, and IAC. Quote
Guest GrandPrixlover1 Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 How do I clean the MAF? I know how to clean the throttle body, and this may be a noob question but, what is an IAC? Quote
ns87 Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 IAC is idle air control. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the 3100. Only the 3.1MPFI Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 What year is your car? If it's a 94 or 95 & the vac lines are ok, then you may need to do an idle relearn. IIRC, there's a FAQ posted in the FAQ forum with the procedure. Quote
Guest GrandPrixlover1 Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 I have a 96 GP SE Coupe, thanks I'll check that out. 8-) Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 pull the plugs and check them as well. They are cheap enough you just might want to replace them if they dont look good. Quote
