Cruise control.....

So I was driving down the road one day after about a few weeks of owning the car, and I tried to turn on the cruise control, and nothing happened. It worked before that, so I checked the fuse and it is still good. So I'm wondering if my control module is bad. I don't have the vacuum diaphram like my brothers car does, I have an electronic cruise control box. well I went to the dealer today to find out how much one was and.... $578.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess thats normal for it coming from the dealer. My question is this. #1: is this a part I have to get only from a dealership? #2: Are there any cheaper ones? and #3: could it be something else? And I know it's not really important for the running of the car, so it's not a dire emergency to get it fixed, I just want to get some opinions before I go off spending money I don't have.

Note: I've already looked on several after market parts websites such as JCWhitney, and Autozone, etc..... I couldn't find anything. Any help would be great guys, THANKS!!! 8-)

I know 19Cutlass94 is selling one. Its in his F/S thread.

Double check and make sure the cable is good and all that jazz.

Is the cable the same length regardless of engine size?

Both my '92 and my '93 had totally rotted vacuum hoses that connect to the module. No vacuum--the module thinks you're applying the brakes and so will not engage.

Doing the repair "right" would mean replacing the vacuum hoses from the brake pedal switch all the way to the module. I used a steel tube and a couple of clamps as a splice, and replaced only the ~12 inches of hose closest to the module.

If it is a bad Cruise Control Module, I think I've got one at home. Let me know if you need it.

How do I check and see if it is a bad one?

Probably w/a multimeter, but I mean I doubt those go bad, but then again what else is there?

My Grandpa should have one of those he's an electrician. If I do need one, how much would you sell it for?

Good news about the cruise control guys, it decided it wanted to work again. Which is good cause now I don't have to go out and buy one, but now I have to check for a loose connection somewhere. Which is still better than getting a new one. YEAH!!!

Heh, rotted vacuum hose. YEP! I have that going on under my hood. But, and I know this sounds lame, but I found (at least on my finicky car) that if you try to engage it enough times... it works. No clue why, but ive always got my cruise to work... eventually...
