gmrulz4u
I've been suspecting a higher than "normal" MAP reading(voltage) for some time now, and think I may have discovered the source. Yesterday, I had a friend spray WD-40 all around the EGR valve's vacinity while I monitered the MAP voltage output. At one point, the voltage dropped to 1.4 volts, compared to the normal 1.8 I've been getting at idle, it stayed at 1.4 volts for about 4 seconds, and then shot back up to 1.8 again. I have the "Integrated Electronic" style of EGR valve. I had it replaced with a brand-new Delco one about 2 years ago. Could it be the EGR gasket or whatever?? I know I've been running just a little RICH for some time, not enough to cause Black smoke, but enough to hindre performance, gas mileage, and it is creating a gaseous odour. I figured that my MAP voltage was always reading too high, but I couldn't find the air/vacuum leak that was causing it...until now, perhaps... Also, I know this EGR valve has a "Pintle Position Sensor" that is supposed to throw a code if it's not what the ECM is commanding, but I think that mine is just LEAKING, even though the diaphragm is still returning to a acceptable position... Anyone have anything to add that I should look at?? I found this site: http://www.autoshop101.com/tests/intest15.html And if you look at the LAST question on the page, #8, you'll see that this is pretty much EXACTLY what I think is happening in my situation... THANKS!
Slade901
It might be the EGR gasket as you said. Either tightened the bolts on the EGR to the right specs or just replace the EGR gasket. Careful when you tighten the EGR bolts as it might crack the EGR base.
