STRANGE source of "clicking" in the front end found..!?! (PIC ADDED)

Ok so I got tired of trying to find out what the hell the problem is in my front drivers side. So I took the gp to a parking lot and got my girlfriend to make sharp turns so I could see what was clicking. As it turns out the small tab on the strut houseing was turning and had cut into the plastic inner cover causeing a loud clicking. There was two seperate cut marks where the small tab on the strut houseing had turned in both directions and cut into the plastic inner cover. What causes this? should I just bend the tab down so it no longer turns into the plactic? or is the strut whole houseing even supposed to be turning at all?

Here is a pic of the strut assembly grabbing the plastic while the wheel is turned. This imitates a horrible front end problem ball joint etc. Any ideas why this would be touching? It does not seem like its hanging down

Wow, that is wierd.

I wonder how that thing bent.

Bottoming out a vehicle while doing a pretty decent speed would do that.

What would hit that though?

so it is bent? i guess I will just bend it upwards. What is that peice supposed to look like? The car has no pulling and you can take or hands off the wheel at anytime and the car always stays straight. It even brakes straight.

You have no idea what that sounds like it mimicks a horrible CV or bad ball joint. I pulled the front wheel off three times and everything looked ok. I even did a wheel bearing swap.I didn't even think to look up there

the bearing at the base of that plate might be frozen. it is basically supposed to stay straight while the lower portion of the strut turns. compare it's movement to the other side!

^^^^^^^^^thats what I was thinking. You guys have to drive in salt, so the bearings probably froze inside the bearing mount and that caused it to stick. Jack the car up and turn the wheel back and forth and see if the bearings is roating smooth.

It seems to move freely but I will jack it up to find out. Now it appears the driver side is on backwards. The passenger side shows that part to the back or side rather then the front. I cut a little bit of the plastic so it wont rub/pull anymore. Until the warm weather when I can rotate it.
