I have a 90 Grand Prix, 3.1 4 speed auto. I was having troubles before with the TCC it would surge around 3200 when cuising around 80 and the odd time it would stay locked when i came to a stop and the car would die. it stoped the locking on a stop thing for a bit but today I lost all my gears.

At first it would slip like mad, when i hit the gas it just reved and i wouldnt go anywere so i manually shifted it and I had 1st and second, so i drove in second for a few miles and it was fine. I stoped at a friends house and topped up the tranny fluid, it was a bit low. after that it still did the same thing then i lost all gears.

it seems fine when its cold it dosent lose gears until ive been driving for a while. When it does lose gears if i shut it off and wait a few minutes and start it up again it will work fine for about 30 seconds before it slips again.

after trailering it home it worked fine again, im guessing cause it wasnt hot, i dont know, i dont know much about automatics. is this an electronic thing or is my tranny totally screwed?

When i lose gears i can move the shifter effortlessly through all the gears and i get nothing, but after letting it sit for a few minutes when i shift i have resistance in the shifter like normal and it shifts fine.

any ideas?

thanks

Ok nvm, the tranny is definatly screwed it makes really bad grinding noises in gear and even idling sometimes and i bought a brand new clutch for only $56, had no idea they were so cheap, I was expecting at least 200 something. looks liek i'm doing a 5 speed swap this week, woot!

havent really started on it yet, I've been driving a Neon around now and its small and gutless compared to my GP, lol it sux. I'm going to my dads today to borrow the monster 36mm or w/e socket to get the driveshaft nuts off, I also work monday, tues, wed but then i'm off until next monday so i shoudl be done by the end of the week.

Also I dont have the 5 speed tranny mount it was being a pita on my donar car so i left it thinking "a new mount cant be that expensive" well i was right in thinking it wasnt expensive but didnt think of teh fact you cant buy them anymore, so I'll be making a poly one from scratch and we'll see how that work out, its a pretty simple mount.
