Does anybody know the size of the bolts that attach the balljoints to the uprights? I'm thinking M6? A length would be good too. Thanks.

Thank you! Have you put a 1/4" bolt in your ball joint before?

You're getting me so hot.

Relax John, its only 1" long

On a relevant note, are these the 4 studs (BOIOIOIOIOIOIOINGGG) that attatch the balljoint? I don't know if I'd skimp on size there...

thats what i mean. I know these cars are metric and judging by what I remember, I want to say that the size is 6mm. Its kind of frightening to think that about half of the loads that your front tires experience side to side are on these bolts. Actually, probably more than the tire experiences, but whatever. Theres quite a bit of shear stress on the bolts. So you'd probably want a bolt with the correct size shoulder too.

Yes I've done it before. No problems.

Same here, thats what is holding my balljoints in right now.

I don't think there's much shear stress on the bolts. From what I remember, the top of the balljoint is raised like 1/4" to fit into a hole in the strut assy, so any kind of side to side stress is taken by that.

Well I was just thinking about the stress on the bolts, if that thing wasnt there. Since they dont really fit together really tight, like a transition fit or interference fit, you cant assume that they transfer the loads to one another. Thats why I was concerned about the bolts.

In reality, you are correct though, the little cup and corresponding piece on the ball joint probably do transfer a good bit of the shear load the bolts would see.

on my autozone balljoints there was some sort of stress that caused the cheep bolts they included to work almost all the way out. replaced them with 1/4' grade 8 hardware and been fine since then
