88red4cyl
So I opened my hood this morning in about 0° weather after I had driven the car and after a moment I hear a hissing/boiling sound.. I look around and find the pass side hood prop strut (if that's what you want to call it) shooting white foamy shit out the bottom of itself.. Then, my hood decided that it's not gonna stay open anymore and fell on me.. So, where do I get another one of these, and how hard are they to install? Q-Ball
Feel good? I've taken them off and they are easy. I've actually never had to replace mine yet. So much better than a hood prop.
Robby1870
Looks like a local parts store will have them. I just checked Advance's site and they list them. They say to replace them in pairs. But, it should be really easy to replace them, they are held on by what, 2 bolts?
ManicMechanic
Actually, I think they're held in with clips.
Robby1870
Even easier! Probably some kind of E-clip.
Crazy K
they snap on and off. I grab good ones from J/Ys. remove the upper clip with a itybity screw driver, and then the upper end. angle it away from the car and rotate it front to back, and it will pop off the peg with a couple quick motions. btw... the ones that always seem to be good(and extend longer) are the ones that have the rod coming out the bottom and not the top. oh yeah..... I have a problem making it home with hood struts. GP1138 had stolen my j/y ones more than once!
88red4cyl
I just wanted to know if any special precautions needed to be taken when removing them... I know on the Fiero, you have to put plywood over the back glass or else they will unspring when you unbolt them and smash the back window.. http://www.autozone.com/R,APP279903/vehicleId,1979001/initialAction,partProductDetail/store,2340/partType,00152/shopping/partProductDetail.htm Does this look like the right one?
