oil pressure issue

Series II 3800, oil pressure is real high when cold, and nonexistent after completely warming up. Before this happened, it would drop when the engine was rev'd. There is also an intermittent tick in the motor, sounds like a lifter. It will tick a few times, then stop, then tick then stop. Its been a while since I have even looked at the car, but I figured I would post it to maybe get some new idea on what might cause this. Anyone have any?

Ol pump is eithr failing or clogged or it could be a clogged filter. Best bet is do an il change and re check or the sending unit could be bad as well. My suggestion is to hook up a manual oil pressure gauge and check it like that and go from there

sounds very similar to what happened to me. my oil pump is fine, its what I did to the motor that fucked it. My modified zzp oil filter relocation did not work, and caused me to have 0 oil pressure. i didnt realise this was the problem so it took me a few trial and error starts with 0psi to figure out that it was my relocation adapter. i created my own way of relcating the filter and got oil pressure. after 2 drives i developed the same tick you now have probably. all it took was maybe 20 seconds total, no load, with no pressure and it damaged the motor. my guage read 65psi at all times. warm, cold, idle - mid rpms. finally the motor just seized. wasnt a lifter cuz there were shavings in the oil pickup screen and pan. i think ur motor is also done now

OMG, runing the motor for more then 1-2 sec is BAD, REAL BAD. 20 sec is complete death. If you get pressure at start up, and then it just completely goes away when it warms up, sounds to me that the pump is bad. I know on my 3.4 with the turbo and the light weight lifters it ticks bad at start up, but thats cause I am not using synthetic oil. The only thing I can think of is that when you start it up cold, the oil is thick and fills all the gaps, but once it gets warm it just cant push it. You said that you are using a remote oil pressure gauge. What kind of gauge is it, is it accurate? I am sure it is the oil pump, but just need to double check. If your pump is bad, change out the pump, its cheaper than an engine rebuild. Also are you sure its a lifter and not a bearing?

With a stethescope it sounded like it was coming from the rear head. I do believe it is an autometer gauge. When I modified the filter plate all I did was drill and tap a hole in the side so the fitting cleared the axle. I don't see where that would cause any problems, but who knows. As soon as I can get it into the garage in gonna tear it down and look at the pump. Ill be sure to take some pics.
