Guest GrandPrixlover1 Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 I'm looking for hood louvers for a 96 Grand Prix SE Coupe, engine size(3100 SFI V6) that actually are functional, and was wondering if anyone knows where to find some. I've checked several sites and called several places and they said the louvers were strictly for show. Most of the mods I'm doing for this car are going to be strictly functional, with the exception of an LED undercar light kit. and maybe a few inside accents, but other than that I don't want to spend too much on her. Just enough to perk her up a bit and turn some heads. Quote
Q-Ball Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Junkyard or ebay. Just do you know, the hood louvers also come in 2 different sizes. 88-93 had longer ones, and 94-96 had shorter ones. Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 What Jason said... Also worth mentioning that they are all functional. You could make them more functional by opening up the drip pans, but then you open up your engine to rain... Jamie Quote

Guest GrandPrixlover1 Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Are they still pretty functional with the drip pans on them if so how much compared to the drip pans being opened? Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Well I imagine they work better without the restriction of the drip pan. However, with that being said, I still see heat fuming out of mine when I come to a stop. The correct name for the louvers is Heat extractors. As the wind goes over them it creates a vacuum, siphoning the hot air out from under the hood, so in theory, the faster you go, the better they work. NOT that I am trying to promote speeding here, lol. The only way to know if there is any advantage to cutting up the drip pan is trying it and seeing what sort of changes you get. I for one don't think the change would be significant enough to risk water getting into the engine bay, just my luck my car would die every time it rains. Jamie Quote
Q-Ball Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 I've ran one my louvered hoods with out the drip pans with 0 problems, even with rain. Quote
Guest GrandPrixlover1 Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 eh, if they still work pretty well with the louvers then I will keep them on just for good measure. Thanks. 8-) Quote
