theghoul Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 My 95csvert started pissing coolant from the head. Mechanic says its gonna be a mint to fix and since it has 120k on it, is it really worth it. I told him damn right, and I'll find you a motor. Now I need to find a motor Any place I can get a reman 3.4 shipped? Or should I look at a L67 or l36 Is the l67 swap more effort? (meaning more $$$) Quote
J Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 first off that chic is your avatar is freaking scary! If i were you i'd go with the L67, that car is beautiful and i'm sure it could use a little more power being a vert and with 20's Quote
Hairdo12 Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Was the coolant only leaking out, or was it leaking in as well? Did it over heat? If it just leaked out, try replacing the head gasket yourself. Whats the worst that could happen... you would need to replace the motor like you plan on doing already. Quote
ManicMechanic Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Keep the 3.4. I just replaced a freeze plug on my 3.4 while the engine was still in the car...For anyone else doing the head gaskets, it's a good time to go ahead and do the timing belt and oil pump drive o-ring. Quote

But I had a few other issues with the 3.4 of death. The infamous rear oil leak and an oil pan crack. The Mech said they can get a gasket kit and do a full re-seal. But those l67 swaps you guys are doing is having me drooling. Quote
ManicMechanic Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I don't think an L67 swap is worth it over a 3.4... Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I don't think an L67 swap is worth it over a 3.4... Not unless you really wanna make power. But really the cost of the swap you can turbo your 3.4. Quote
theghoul Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 Wheres a good place to buy a 3.4 reman? I looked at jasperengines.com, but its $3700 for one. Granted they upgrade the motor a lot. Quote
jeremy Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I love the LQ1, but depending on what you are looking to spend and how capable the guy working on the car is I might be leaning towards the L67 just simply for the bang for the buck. Quote
theghoul Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 He wants 900 for a R and R on the LQ1. Plus the reman I'm looking at nearly 5k. I'd like it to stay around that much. (I only paid 4 for the car ) But I love the darn car and he knows it. They are capable heavy repair guys (they dont do small stuff). The jaspers have a 3yr 100k parts and labor warranty for the 3.4 Side note, they sell the L67 for $300 cheaper Can I keep the old trans or do I need a 4t65e? Quote

But really the cost of the swap you can turbo your 3.4. Depending on your location and if you do your own work, L67 swaps can be done relatively cheap these days(around or under $1K). Quote
Crazy K Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Damn. I'm sorry to hear that. I vote L67. or you could simply go with a L36 from a 94 or 95 Regal, along with it's transmission and the engine wiring harness and PCM. not too much bang for the buck.... but that would be a simple straightforward swap. I pulled it from memory... so you're probably right. Quote
theghoul Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 So do you guys get your motors from junkyards or can I find an L67 reman somewhere else than Jasper? Quote
pwmin Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 most people just use j/y L67's. its not worth messing w/ an LQ1 from a j/y as most will be in worse shape than yours unless youre just going to patch the one thats in there now and rebuild one from a j/y. just look around on ebay and sometimes you will find reman or new LQ1's for pretty cheap. i would stick w/ the LQ1 since its and LQ1 car. if it was a 3100, i would say L67 all the way. i'm just biased that way. Quote
Andrew Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 if you want a good used pull, contact Ed Morad, he is king of j/y W parts. 2nd gens though, so he wont have any 3.4 for you, but he always has L67 available. http://stores.ebay.com/Morad-Parts-Company http://www.moradpartscompany.com/ Quote
pwmin Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 getting one from morad is a good idea the thing w/ 3.4 cars is that the people that buy them find out what it costs to do the timing belt or fix the oil pump drive o-ring and then decide the car's not worth it and junk it. you might be able to get away w/ a j/y 3.4 that was in a car that was sent to the j/y w/ low mileage because it was totalled in an accident. we're just crazy enough to keep them Quote
theghoul Posted January 4, 2008 Author Report Posted January 4, 2008 Coolness. I'll check with them and see. But you are right, we are a bit crazy to keep em. I love my CS vert. If I need to dump 10 grand in it, so be it. Quote
