Panther15
Ok this might sound awkward but last sunday i replaced my battery in my 3.1L lumina because it had a bad cell, or atleast thats what autozone said, anyways before i bought the new battery, the engine when started would idle extremely high, like high enough you couldnt hear people talk outside of the car lmao. Basicly like if you accelerated alittle bit in park. then once i shifted into drive it was normal, but thats not the main confusion i have, because after i replaced the bad battery, my engine now idles completely normal. not high at all. o matter what i do i cannot make it idle anywhere near the range i was getting with the bad battery. So my question is, can a bad battery cause my engine to idle very abnormally high? Seems to run smoother aswell, as far as acceleration and such. Which i found very very odd rofl. please help me figure out this mystery. thx ahead of time
Crazy K
yes. the computer would have been steeping up the idle in an attempt to recharge the battery.

paulo57509
Hmmm...this topic is interesting and has got me thinking. You know how the 3.1 gets that surging idle problem? The other day, I noticed that the frequency of the surging gets a little faster and the electrical load on the engine increases. For instance, if I turn on the headlights, etc. I don't have a charging problem but it makes me wonder if there's a systemic grounding or connection issue going on.
