93Luminanewb Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 So I went to the muffler shop yesterday and I was asking about the pricing on a 2.5 inch custom bent exhaust pipe and the guy tells me it can't be done. I asked why and he said because it won't make it over the rear axle, I asked why not run it under the rear axle? He said it won't be inspectable then. Is there anyone in PA that can verify this? I know it's pretty low under the axle, but on my car, the pipe hangs the low near the cat already, and I want to run it through the center of the rear axle. He also said that my dual exhaust idea cant be done because there's no room, but he might be able to pull it off for $500-$600. I can't believe I'm still mad over this. Quote
gp90se Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 mine runs under the the exhaust, its low but legal in mass, havent rubbed it yet. -Jeff Quote
Bolt_Crank Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 I've rubbed my exhaust a few times already even though it's factory Quote
Robby1870 Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 My exhaust goes under the rear axle, If you want to call it that, and it never scrapes. The only parts that do scrape are my turbo tube, the lowest thing under my car, and the tips if Im backing down a driveway Robby Quote
Heza Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 $500-$600???? WTF?? i'm getting my exhaust done next week. 2.5" Carsound cat, 2.5" all the way back to the Y. 2.25" into (2) Flowmaster 40s and whichever tips i decide on for $430. the pipe is getting bent the same route the stock dual exhaust runs. Robby1870 Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 I dont know where y'all get your exhaust done, but mine, for the turbo tube, two mufflers, y-pipe and two dual outlet tips, and removed my cat was like $260 US Robby Quote
93Luminanewb Posted July 17, 2003 Author Report Posted July 17, 2003 Holy crap Robby, you are one lucky guy! I decided that I'm going to a different place, and get as many different quotes as I can. I only went to the place because I heard they're reputable, but the more I think about it, the more outrageous their prices are. Thanks for the input. Quote
brian89gp Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Most the newer first gen w-body's have the exhaust under the rear suspension assembly anyway (stock). Quote
Baddflash Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Mine goes right under the right rear swing arm (right at pivot point) and is tucked up quite nicely, can't see there being a problem. Maybe try a different shop? Quote
gp90se Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Per, im in newton. im thinkin of having a couple flanges put in so i can bolt the cat on and off and keep a test pipe handy. -Jeff Quote
Baddflash Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Mine cost $400 CAD. I had a magnaflow muffler installed inplace of cat 2.5" pipe run back split into 2.5" duals with flow tech bottles. Quote
Lee Posted July 20, 2003 Report Posted July 20, 2003 Check out my www site. I went to a shop and asked for a 2.5" single exhaust and he said "can't be done. No room over the suspension." I told him that I'd been on the net and they were doing it. He said I should have my internet buddies do it then. So....I decided to go 2.25" and dual using a 94 Grand Prix bend pattern...different shop that did everything I wanted.no prob!!! Under the suspension. I did go to a second shop that said $600 to $700. All this including the glasspack was $320. I bought my own parts and paid the shop for y-pipe, pipe and labor. The mufflers are 2.5 because I'd already bought one and they were on sale for that size so... Yeah all the newer gen ones are under. Thats why the plain single exhaust models have that big can of a black muffler out there for everyone to see. I tilted mine to tuck some of it up underneath. Quote
93Luminanewb Posted July 20, 2003 Author Report Posted July 20, 2003 Thanks for all of the replies guys, I'm holding off on a new exhaust for a bit, I just bought a performance chip from FFP and a shiftkit . Oh well, another paycheck bites the dust. Quote
