timdjohn
I need to replace the tranny in my 92 GP. I have located a 4T60E with only 40K miles on it. Since my car came with a 4T60 can i use a 4T60E in it's place? I know there may be more wireing and such. is there any benifit to using the 4T60E? did they shift better or anything? ManicMechanic
My 4T60 shifts kind of hard...My 4T60E shifts like it's made of butta. lol
Q-Ball
I think the 4t60 was vacuum controlled versus the E for electronic. Dont know if you can switch it.
mra32
Don't you need a different ecu (like one that came from the car with the electronically controlled transmission) to run a 4t60e in a vacuum-controlled car?
Crazy K
it CAN be done. YOU NEED: a 91-93 3.4 or 93 3.1 with OD transmission PCM a 1993 3.1 PCM chip for a car with OD. CV axles from a 91-93 car with an E tranny (passenger side for sure, but I don't remeber if the drivers side differs) a 1993 3.1 w-body engine harness from a car with OD. a proper 4t60e. it is important that you get a tranny from the right car and years in order to get one with the right gear ratio and wiring connectors. what is the donor from? No where near the benfit of going through all that work. Its still basically the same weak internals. Basica difference... once vaccum controlled the other is electronically. timdjohn
well from what crazy k says I don't think it is worth messing with at this time. I will just keep an eye out for the 4T60 then. I didn't know all that would be involved. I may as well do a L67 swap (if I had the funds )

Regal_GS_1989
The big difference is that the 4T60's Shift points are controlled via a TV cable, whereas the 4T60E's are controlled electronically. Line pressure is vacuum controlled on both.
