McLaren1
hi all, i have a 1990 GPT with the gold crosslace wheels. a couple of them look pretty nasty on the outter edge that is polished aluminum? the clearcote or whatever it is is flaking off and the aluminum is stained badly. does anyone know a fix? can u have the outter edge turned on a lathe or something and brought back to new? and then recoated or whatever that is? thanx!....Scott
Psych0matt
paint and polish pretty much what I'd do (and I think what a few others have done) is strip them with aircraft stripper, polish the lip a little, tape it off and paint, then clear. McLaren1
hmmmm, i thought about painting them, but its been my experience it just ends up getting chipped and flaking off anyway!? i figure if i can fix the problem with the aluminum it will be a lifetime fix!? i dunno, lookin for options....Scott
Psych0matt
that's why you have to strip them really good, and prep them for paint more than just roughing them up, if you want them to look better.
AWeb80
Check My X Lace Threads. joey b
Heating painted parts helps for paint to hold as well. If you can somehow find an oven that will get to about 300 F and is large enough.

McLaren1
happy new yrs guys! u say u polished them? i tried polishing but there r chunks of clearcoat coming off and needs to be taken down to bare surface i think? i too was thinking what u said and painting the outter edge black. u have pics? as far as powdercoating? i didnt want to spend tons of money and really like the factory finish? dont think i wanna ruin the whole thing when all im trying to fix is the outer aluminum edge? i also listed some pics of my bad motor chariot if anyones interested on photobucket. check out my fly cutom interior! http://s258.photobucket.com/albums/hh264/McLarenTGP/
Psych0matt
are you going to post that pic and tell everyone of your "custom fly interior" in every single post you make?

mra32
Polishing them is pretty cheap, and looks awesome, but it takes alot of work.

McLaren1
well psycho matt im not sure what yer problem is or why u enjoy conflict but im just here to have fun, gain some knowledge and see some cars that people r proud of. NOT put up with insults. you also include a pic at the end of yer email responses. soooooo..... if im doing something wrong let me know, otherwise dont respond to me at all. now YOU are "junking up" my thread!.....Scott
Psych0matt
whoa, take it easy, I was just pointing out that it's kind of annoying when you put that at the end of every post. The reason we have a rule about sig images is because of this. It's just impolite (IMO) and unneeded. You seem like a nice guy, and I'm not trying to pick a fight, I'm just noticing that you're a new guy that might not know some of the rules or general expectations, that's all. If you wanted to post pics of all of your car pictures and such, I think you should make a thread specifically for that, and you can find a small pic to put in your sig like everyone else. Again, I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but I just wanted to point some of this out.
McLaren1
well im glad u didnt turn out to truly be "psycho"! he, he. i add a pic to my responses cuz i like to show off my car like everyone else. seems everyone uses photobucket so i did the same. i dont see how they resize the pics? it comes the way it is on photobucket. im not all that computer literate in the first place. thanx for pointing this out and not further complicating this. by making a thread to show off my car i assume u mean in the "members ride" part of the forum? i will try and keep my pictures to myself from now on! thanx!......scott
Psych0matt
, no biggie there is an option in photobucket to auto resize them, and that's what I usually do when uploading pictures so that they arent the full resolution.
McLaren1
gracias! what IS the acceptable resolution to reduce my pics to then? maybe i can set up a different album for this forum with small rez then? thanx.....scott

Psych0matt
that hood is interesting.... definitely different, and I really like it for the most part, but I'd extend the black across the roof and trunk to bring it all together
