GtipGary
Earlier today my Trans out of nowhere started slipping TERRIBLY! So i pulled into a gas station and bought a quart of transmission fluid and poured about half of it in my trans. After i left the gas station it seemed like it was shifting a little bit better so i made it home parked my car and started hanging out with my friends. Four or so hours go by and we realize that we ran out of beer. So we hop in my car and make the trip to meijer. When i pull into the parking lot even the slightest touch of the gas would throw the car out of gear... i pull up at the front doors and let my buddy out, hit the gas after he gets and brrooommm nothing. I put it in reverse, nothing, drive nothing, first gear, nothing, second gear start, nothing... it just free revs no matter what i do. So im thinking that the PIECE OF SHIT 4t60e that is in my 94 grand prix is FUCKED! So i was wondering what would it take to put the 4t65e-hd in my car??? or if there is a possible solution to making my trans work again so i can at least get the car home? joey b
throw some brake fluid in to get home. It causes the seals to swell. As far as the 65, you are quite out of luck. Wiring is completely different and it is not vacuum modulated.

Ok... but will that completely screw the motor??? cause i can get it trailered to the shop i work at probably monday... but i just dont like it sitting at meijer with me not there... Is it possible that i overfilled it?? Also there is some service bulletins on 60* about the 4t60e something about bad actuator grounds or something, could that be a possibility? White93z34
you could find a 97' montie z34 in a junkyard, make sure to be 100% sure it has the 4t65e, that way you could OBD2 swap the car AND get the 4t65e. however the 4t60e isan't that bad, find a shop that knows what they are doing and they can be built decent. joey b
only the seals and clutches that would be replaced on a rebuild anyway. BTW, I thought that there was only one version of the 65, regardless of 97 monte or otherwise.
Regal_GS_1989
Did you even check the fluid level in the trans? I would check that first before doing ANYTHING to it. If its low, fill it up. Just check it without the car running. If there is nothing showing, then put some in before starting it again. You said it yourself, it ran better after you put in some fluid. My guess is something is leaking and now you are low on fluid.
GtipGary
The funny part about this is... i had this happen to me on December 23 last yeah with my other grand prix... i think its silly that it happened at the exact same time. Im going to pick it up with my stepdads trailer tomorrow and get it to the shop i work at. Ill check the fluid and mess with a few other things once i get it there. Its too damn cold to go to meijer and stand in the parking lot messing with it now. But when it stopped working when i pulled up in front of meijer the first thing i did after i got it into a parking spot was walked back over to where it stopped and looked for fluid leakage. It was raining and dark but i didnt see any. Ill post up tomorrow when if i figure anything out.

Chancho
BTW, I thought that there was only one version of the 65, regardless of 97 monte or otherwise. no the hd versin of the 65 came off of the l67 motors/ other supercharged 3800's but the wiring was changed out for the 97 monte to be functional with 60*'s
RangeStang
So what exactly can be built on the 4t60e without custom parts? I have looked for like shift kits and stuff for them but can't find any WTF! I know they make one for the 65 would that one work? Could it be modified in some way to work? GtipGary
Sooo a mechanic that i talked to today told me about a channel gasket inside the transmission... he said that the corners of the gasket over time have a tendency to blow out. After that happens the fluid instead of building up pressure and releasing the clutches or w/e, leaks through the gasket hole and wont let the trans shift any more. Euro
Built 4t60-e > 4t65-e I'd take a ZZP built 4T65E over any sort of "built" 4T60E anyday
