Update on my DOHC project:

Block will be out next week, but I got the bill already... AHH! $955.89! I REALLY hope this is worth it! CALLING ON PEOPLE WITH DOHC MOTOR PICS! I need ANY pics you have of this motor! I'm trying to figure out where every bracket, and vaccum hose goes to this beast! So if ANY of you could help me out, that would be wonderful!

Ok, so here is the detailed machine work:

- Silcolite 3409 Pistons: $170.70

- Head Gaskets: $41.46

- 5 angle Valve Job: $150.00

- Resurface Heads: $50.00

- Port, Polish, match heads: $250.00

- Degease block: $40.00

- Bore & Hone block: $96.00

- R&R Freeze Plugs & Aux Shaft Bearings: $40.00

- R&R Pistons on rods: $30.00

- Tear down: $40.00 (couldnt get the intermediate shaft cog off!)

- Polish Crank: $35.00

Total: $955.89

What kind of power gains do you think i'll be getting? Anyone that wants to recommend to me any performance parts that I don't know about for this motor, feel free to post me some suggestions! Thanks!

hey sounds awsome. i would really recomend when you put her together to retard the exhaust timing, it helps alot and it free :D I'll try to post some close up pics of the motor

Wow, 5 angle valve job. That sounds great. I wouldn't think 30 or so horses would be an unreasonable estimate.

Posted

Yeah I was hopin for quite a bit of a power gain. And I'm boring out the blcok with oversized pistons, so that should help too. I thought about doing the alternate cam timing, but I heard you get a bad idle, this true?

Posted

Everything looks reasonable, but the head work. I wouldn't expect much out of 250 bucks to do the DOHC heads.

Posted

Yeah, I was pissed, I thought, man I am getting ripped off or what? $250 For TWO DOHC heads? That's about 1/3 of what my heads are gonna cost.

Posted

Well, I've seen what they're doing cause I thought it was WAY too cheap also. But they're doing what some $1000 head jobs cost. I'll take pics of them soon when I get them back.

Yes, new timing chain and belt is included along with pullys and tentioner. Anything else you guys can think of?

Man, it sounds like one helluva a job. Your DOHC is gonna be one badass motor when you get it done

I'd do all that.... but it would cost me at least twice as much... but your DOHC is gonna some extra pull :D

The better to eat rice with, my friend ;)

I take it thats for a pushrod motor? You may want to watch using too large of a turbo, you may be in for a blown motor or two!

the car is a little more bassie at idle but idles smooth and i havent noticed a drop in fuel economy, not that i really had any to drop

i know this guy that that is all he dies for a living is building insanely boosted motors, mostly pushrod motors... he is guiding me... im making sure to do it right, and im paying attention to every detail...

im not too worried.... it will be kinda low boost for street, then high bost with 118 octane for the track...
