cutty
Well here is the problem i have been having lately. Is when i put the car from drive to reverse, or park to reverse. Only sometimes do the reverse lights come on, and sometimes it takes a lot of tries to get the lights to come on. So what i was wondering is what exactly would be the cause of this, and how hard and how much it would cost to replace.
dohc v6
I have the same problem. If you move the handle while its in reverse, the light will come on. I think that its a park/ nutral safty switch. I think that all it needs to do is be aligned.
Crazy K
the 94 and 95 park Netrual safty switch is at fault. THEY SUCK! They were not properly lubed from the factory or something. I've dismantled cleaned, lubed and put em back in service.

Crazy K
on the 3100 it takes a bit of maneuvering.... on 3.4.... I find it EASIER to DROP THE CRADLE. <---- not a joke. basically on ALL the cars..... remove the airbox, then you must reach down and straight back. remove the 15MM nut holding the shift lever. the wigle the lever arm till it releases. then remove the two 13MM bolts(sometimes nuts) then disconnect the pigtails and out it comes. reinstallation is a bit trickier. A new switch should be in neutral, with a pin that shears once you shift. used is a different story. HERES HOW I DO IT. I plug it in, turn the two bolts in finger tight, install the shift lever and tighten only it properly. then with the car off, I place the car in reverse (apply parking brake or chock the wheels first) and then adjust until I see the reverse lights activate. (helps to do it in the dark!) tighten the two bolts hold the Switch, then throw the airbox in loosely and see if the car starts in neutral and park and not in any other gear. if it is still out of adjustment I repeat the adjustment with the car in reverse until everything lines up... meaning loosening and retightening the bolts etc etc etc.

rockfangd
lol i figured those damn switches were commonly bad. my friends cutlass and mine have never started in neutral but our backup lights have always worked
Crazy K
the metal insidew wears easily. just a little wear and they loose contact. I grab used switches for my installations and complete dismantle, clean, die-electric grease, and reassemble them. I do ditch the switch if it is significantly worn.
