92turboLE
so i was having a local place make some pistons and they had no fucking clue what they were doing, so now i have no new pistons.... im curious if anyone has done new pistons, or if they know of somewhere that makes pistons for the 3.1??? also, if you know specs, that would help too thanks - Justin
Vegeta
I am having a place in florida called BRC make a set of pistons for the DOHC. I assume you are looking for forged pistons to your spec compression. I sent them a piston and a piece of the head. I didnt feel like making a mold of the head so I sent them a cylinder:P Otherwise, I believe ross racing has made 3.1 pistons before. Not sure on any other companies but the 3.1 (2.8) was fairly common to have pistons made.
92turboLE
Party, thanks for the info, i called Ross and they told me that i could do fully custom, built to my spec forged pistons, with rings and matched pins for $540.... i think im doin that.... thanks for the help - Justin
Baddflash
You should be able to just get 2.8L pistons as it has the same diameter as 3.1L just different stroke.
Brian P
2.8 pistons won't work with 3.1's added stroke. They'd go past the block surface
god910
2.8 pistons won't work with 3.1's added stroke. They'd go past the block surface AND???? WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL???? Just don't use any valves, and use 5 Head gaskets, it's all good. And you said you wanted high compression. Sheesh.

I think he meant they'd go too low and fall into the oil pan type thing
92turboLE
i dont want high compression, i want to lower my compression... im having it lowered from 8.9:1 to 8.4:1 and adding boost and nitrous... and i talked to the guys at Ross Pistons and they are cutting me a deal, i get a full set of forged custom pistons, built to my speck, with matched 4340 steel pins and racing rings... they might do the rods for me as well... the pistons, pins and rings are costing me a total of $540!!!!! - Justin
Brian P
What, the stock compression isn't low enough?
92turboLE
20-25lbs of boost, not to mention nitrous for spooling purposes....... o-ringing the head and block 8) 8) 8) - justin
