Lonewolf Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 Some days ago I take a ride from Berlin to Hamburg on Autobahn. Wheather was good and so I try to get the highest Speed my Cutty can go... ..but at exactly 179 km/h was end. I think it's an electronical speed limiter . is it right ? Have all Cutlass this in ? Can iKill this ??? Greets Ralf from Germany Quote
Brian P Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 yeah that's the speed limiter. No real way to get around it without reprogramming the computer. Quote
Andrew Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 yeah, what he said. however, i dont think its a good idea to run your engine continuously at 4000rpms or higher. gas mileage will suffer as well. Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 He's doing almost twice the speed limit here, somehow I don't think milage is a concern, lol. Jamie Quote
jeremy Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 I don't think milage is a concern, lol. w3rd Quote
Chancho Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 Yep the speed limiter is programed in at 107mph i believe ad there ios no real way to get around it without programing the ECU, damn fuel cutoff, i hate it Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 Since your Cutlass is 1995, youll have to swap to OBDII to remove the limiters. That might be hard over there. Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 Is there any way to figure out what the speed limiter is set at? Aside from the obvious trial and error. I was told my 95 GTP would be 107mph, but I have had it up to 118mph and still climbing, slowly, but climbing none the less. Jamie Quote
rockfangd Posted December 16, 2007 Report Posted December 16, 2007 wait does that say 55000 miles. holy shit i wish mine was that low. i just hit 100000 damn it lol. Quote

Try holding 3rd gear manually, you'll get to it a WHOLE lot faster than by just leaving it in "D" (which shortshifts 2-3 at like 5000-5200rpm). Either way, I've never heard of an LQ1 auto cut LOWER than 117mph, or HIGHER than 122mph. 107ish (more like 106-112) is for the 3100 cars.......... Quote
ismellrealbad Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 how is it u have non-metric guages in germany Quote
J Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 how is it u have non-metric guages in germany someone had it shipped over, or he got a cluster Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 Damn, I'm pretty surprised that the cluster is only 9 km/h off lol. Quote
PCGUY112887 Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Pfft my spedo has gone off the guage Quote
synistershadows Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 did the 92 year have the limiter if so what would it be at? i've only taken mine up to 175 Kmh and still had more to go Quote
BIGBULS Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 120ish like all 91-95 LQ1 autos (like I said, car to car varies slightly). It'll BARELY do it in 4th (takes forever), but will pull RIGHT to the limiter if you manually hold 3rd gear all the way. Quote
BIGBULS Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Pfft my spedo has gone off the guage Yeah............because your mod list says "97 PCM with DHP Powertuner". Duh. Quote
Lonewolf Posted December 22, 2007 Author Report Posted December 22, 2007 Thanks you all for the answers ... Yes my Speedometer shows lower speed than GPS. The Cluster is original ( the mileage too ) I don't want often drive this High :rolleyes:Speed but it is interesting to know about. With 100mls/h I am not very fast on German Autobahn, the most TDi's are faster .... (Peugeot, Alfa, Audi etc,..) Greets Ralf Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 As long as you had fun driving that fast in the Cutlass thats all that matters! Quote

The most Comment is: "For what is it, i've never seen it before !!!" One man ask me: Is it a Radarprotection ?? BTW.: The most people in Germany don't know what is an Oldsmobile ..... w-bodys_are_the_best Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 Does anyone know what the 5-speed LQ1's run to? I maxed out my digital speedo in my 91 Cutlass International while racing a co-worker's lincoln continental, but that only goes to 99 and my HUD was not working at the time (probably hit about 105 and let off). I'm curious because my 1990 Z24 cav limits out at 115 or 120 IIRC and the auto Z24's only hit about 107 from what I've been told, just wondering what a 5-speed W can do, hopefully I'll find out for myself this spring when I drop in the other LQ1 I bought for my Cutlass.
