Nick1234 Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 Am i the only one in the world that hates ABS? i posted on a different forum to see if there was a fuse i could pull like on my lumina, cause i couldn't find one, and all i got was 2 pages of people telling me i am stupid. Fuck ABS. When i want to fucking stop, ABS isn't the damn answer. Quote
MonteCarloChick Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 I haven't had ABS on the '96 for 2 years. Somehow I've survived I also like the car without it Quote

Fuck ABS. When i want to fucking stop, ABS isn't the damn answer. WTF? OK, here's the deal, ABS isn't there to condescend and tell you you're a shitty driver. It's simply a safety feature, an aid to stopping on slippery pavement. Why all the vitriol and bitching about it?? Next are you going to tell me that seat belts are only for people that don't know how to drive? It's saved my ass a couple of times, and I know it does for others as well. Quote
Crazy K Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 abs could have helped me out a few times... but I know how to pump my brakes when I need to. 2001 Chevy Impala LS1990 Chevy Lumina Euro 4dr 3.1 Turbo: K&N, 1.6 Roller Tip Rockers, Custom Chip, Exhaust, 180 T-stat, Poly dogbones, 1G DSM BOV, UD-Pulley 14.446 @ 94.54 Your Lumina does NOT have ABS. /end discussion Quote
Nick1234 Posted December 8, 2007 Author Report Posted December 8, 2007 Yeah im sorry. I came home this morning after like 13 hours of work to read on that other forum peoples crap. So i took it out on you guys. Its really just a personal opinion. Ken, i was talking about my 93 i had where the abs was engaging on dry pavement, so i pulled the fuse on that car. Not the 90. I fully understand the purpose of abs, but i honestly find it more of a Nuesence than a beneficial. Quote
Crazy K Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 ah! a 93. that makes all the difference. being a 93.... YES you can pull the fuse, without ill consequences.... except that you should have the abs cycle should you ever need to bleed the entire system. on your impala... no, you would trigger many codes... and disable traction control (if equipped?) personally, I would rather have selective ABS. I turn it on when I want it on. Snow? On. rain? On. Sunny and 115 in the shade? off. abs is best for the pedestrian driver. An excellent driver would do fine without abs if they know how to pump the brakes. Quote

pontiacmaniac94 Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 yah, well, my ABS isnt workin on my 94 gp, i dont seem to mind, it has been not working on and off since i got the car 3 years ago, so you can get used to it. i also like not having it, it makes me feel like i am more in control... .but that is jsut me Quote
Regal_GS_1989 Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 I dont like it. I agree with what ken said, that an excellent driver will do fine without ABS. I have been driving for almost 5 years, and i have never once had a situation where the car slid or started to spin out because i didnt have ABS. I threashold brake and I just dont feel as if i'm the one in control when i have ABS. Although, i have to admit, i've drven newer vehicles with ABS, specifically 02 - 06 chevy trucks, and the ABS feels a lot more refined than the earlier ones that were in the W's, but still not as good as controlling it myself. Quote
Chancho Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 Yea ABS has come a long way over the years but the older ABS systems found in our cars just dont cut it, they are too slow with response and stay on too long after the situation is corrected Quote
birdman Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 the lumina's got abs and the zx2 doesnt, and there are times in the lumina when the abs activates im like wow... because you may not spin out but you sure aint stopping for shit. now in the zx2, if i cant slow down for a corner ill just yank the e-brake and drift it (you do get points for that) Quote
GtipGary Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 The Abs hasnt worked in my grand prix in about six months... weve had snow for about the past two weeks up here and i havent had any problems. I could really give two shits if its on or off, ill figure out a way to stop one way or another. The only thing that bothers me is the damn abs light it burns holes in my eyes... i got cover that god forsaken thing up Quote
ismellrealbad Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 I have very strong opinions on ABS. This is my siimple breakdown generalized to all cars: dry: I prefer it, but would be fine without it rain: way better, esp because of its intended purpose to allow you to steer snow/ice: HORRIBLE!! its like you dont even have brakes. I must pull the fuse in snow or i will hit people. ill pump myself at my own rate thanks Quote
rockfangd Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 well i never got an abs light for 3 years until i put in a new rear bearing that actually had a sensor and now i have an abs light every day. long story short, i didnt even realize i didnt have it for 3 years so maybe someday it will work Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Cant complain about my ABS... it works.... brakes work great. Quote
Nick1234 Posted December 11, 2007 Author Report Posted December 11, 2007 my comment is directed towards snow and ice. It is impossible to stop a car quickly. I know the car stops faster without abs than with. Quote
Addicted to eaton Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 With the right drive yes it does. My cavalier had it that only worked once in a great while. And i did not see the use of it. Ill stick with my gp with non abs Quote
pontiacmaniac94 Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 well i never got an abs light for 3 years until i put in a new rear bearing that actually had a sensor and now i have an abs light every day. long story short, i didnt even realize i didnt have it for 3 years so maybe someday it will work X2! i replaced the front, and that is when i had a problem! okay, so i didnt really replace it, i patched it, and now it hasnt worked for about a year and a half Quote

I am reassured by pumping the pedal anyhow. so its cool X2! i replaced the front, and that is when i had a problem! okay, so i didnt really replace it, i patched it, and now it hasnt worked for about a year and a half Quote
