dohc v6
ok so I started taking my oil pan gasket off. Now I got it down about 3-4 inches before it hits the frame. Is there anyway to lower the pan a little more so that I can snake the gasket around the oil pump. I am thinking about taking off the starter. Also I can see where the gasket was not sealing. Should I try and put some Gm Sealant around the whole pan? I know that u are supposed to put it on the ends next the rear main bearing caps. Felpro says not to but I dont know. I dont want to do this agian.
dohc v6
Ok guys, I got the starter off and it looks like I am stuck. So I think that my only option is to drop the front of the frame adn pull the whole pan out. Can I drop the front of the frame like I did the rear to do the steering gear? I dont want the motor to fall. Any imput would be very helpful. I am going to call it a night as its 1 am and I dont wanna drop this by myself. I want to put my whole car back together tomorrow so please if you know, chime in, thanks.
19Cutlass94
If you have a cherry picker / engine hoist you can just jack the motor up a tad. If you drop the subframe you still need something to support the engine cause if you didnt what point would there be in dropping the subframe? dohc v6
Well I got a plan. But if it does not work then my dad is going to pay to have it fixed at the dealership
19Cutlass94
Its fairly easy to do it yourself. If you go to a GM dealership your gonna get raped having them do it.

Q-Ball
I wish my dad would pay for car repair bills. Next time, I'll send the bill to him.
dohc v6
Haha, nice one. yeah I have worked on my car for the last 4-5 years. yeah my dad will pay for shit. But he will never let me go the easy way out. its not like I try and if it does not work then say fuck it. Anywyas I am using a felpro gasket and no its not easy at all. I cut the gasket and wraped it around the motor. Then I uses GM sealent to seal the cut. I hope it works. If not I bring it next week to get fixed. BXX
Are you using the Fel-Pro PermaDry gasket???? If so, DONT USE ANY SEALANT.... It will cause leaks I have seen one too many people use sealants on permadry gaskets... And they will always leak then
dohc v6
I have no idea if its perma dry, But I know that gm says to use this sealent. My brother has the same gasket and it leaks and he put no selant on the rear main caps. So honestly I dont care as long as it drives, becasue then i can bring it to the dealership
BXX
If it is Blue/black and looks/feels like rubber, then it's a permadry... They can be tricky to install sometimes though. GM says to use sealant on their type of gaskets, but the permadry is a different material designed by felpro for troublesome sealing applications and no sealent can be used.. BXX
meh. permadry gaskets leak on the ends of GM stuff if not sealed in my experience. if sealent is used to cover gaps, then that is fine... but there are soo many people who use the damn rtv as a glue for every gasket known to mankind dohc v6, hope you have some better luck now... no leaks would definately keep you from getting more pissed at your z34 and wanting to kill it
