phantomFE3
hey guys i was changing the oil pump drive seal on my car today because it was leaking out very bad, everything went out, i only got 1 cut on my knuckle and didnt notice it till i was almost done ...till i got to the point where you have to put the flange back on the drive. ya know, with the flange and the bolt you have to bolt down, now i was doing this for like an hour, trying to get that thing bolted back on there and it would drop down and sometimes fall to the ground and sometimes just fall down on top of the tranny and i would use an extender magnet to dig down there and pull it out, untill i dropped it down there, it didnt come out the bottom and when i tried using th magnet, i couldnt get it!!! i tried this for another hour, i even jackep up the car and snuck under the bottom side and worked the magnet around through the bottom side!! so now im stuck with having to get a new flange!!! hopefully the junkyard has one that i can get for pretty cheap!! unless someone knows where this thing is lodged at? i dont know, it pisses me off. so now i have no car untill tomorrow i can take my moms van to the junk yard to see if they have one, or i might have to stop at the dealership to get this part!! oh well, i have nothing to do untill then i guess, and at least my car wont leak oil anymore!!!!!!! oh and does anyone have any tips on how to get that DAMN thing on there easier?!?!?!?! if you do it would be VERY much appreciated!! thanks!!! Robby1870
yeah, that is a good place to lose stuff. I didnt have that much problem with my O-ring. It took me like 10 minutes to change. The only problem I had was gettin the teeth of drive assembly to match the teeth they fit in in the block Robby
phantomFE3
yeah it was bad at all, everything was goin fine, just taking the fuel lines off took a bit of time but it was that bad, this was the only thing i had trouble with, putting the flange back on
bluegp
If you didn't try already, get a bright flashlight and take your time to look down all the nooks & crannies back there. Sometimes it helps if you tilt the engine forward by unbolting the top "dogbones", moving the engine with a crowbar, and inserting one of the dogbone bolts through the engine bracket and the hole in the midsection of the dogbone (like when you change the 3 plugs near the firewall. This may give you just enough room to look back there. I once lost one of the bolts that hold the module bracket to the block. After 45 minutes of looking, feeling, swearing, and throwing stuff, I got a flashligh. Right away I saw it -- it was between the starter and the engine block! GrandPrix34
the great abyss! i also have an assortment of sockets, 1 NEW pair of needle nose pliers and god knows how many bolts and nuts *they were replaced!* Im thinking of one day dropping the subframe and taking inventory
Slade901
Get a powerful spotlight that one that plugs to your cigarette lighter adapter. Increase the search area coverage because sometimes things that drop goes farther that you expected them to be.

lukee1982
i cant remember if there is a sump in the subframes on the drivers side or not but i know i found a good amount of sockets and bolts ont the passenger's side sump. so check the subframe and at least you will end up with a cleaner engine (dirtier arm)
phantomFE3
i got the part from the junkyard this morning off a 2.8 beretta engine, they only charged me a dollar for it!!! so i went back home, ties a "safety line" to it this time and got it on the 2nd or 3rd try!!! i took it for a test drive and i went and i turned around in our driveway and as i was going up the driveway i heard a clinking sound, and i was like, oh my fucking god, it better not be! so i got out, walked the driveway and guess what fell out!!! the DAMN HOLD DOWN!!! gees!!! so ya, for sale: oil pump drive hold down an bolt: $2+shipping if anyone needs one, i have it
rglguy
yeah it wasa fuckin pain in my ass to get that back on, you know how i did it?? i used my flexible magent, i put it into the hole a bit, then SLOWELY stuck the socket and extention onto the bolt, without touchin the maget( this took numurous tries) them i wiggled the socket around till it went in:) it was easy once i stped took a break..... but i must have droped the friggin bolt a hundred times too, oh well,
CPSMonteZ34
The horrible memory, you brought it back. When I flushed the coolant last year, I proceeded to bleed the system. The pipe near the brake booster has two screws for some screwy reason, and I loosened the smaller one that goes into the second one. I guess it was a bit too loose because as I was adding coolant and watching for it to bubble out of the hole, the tiny screw decided to take a phuckin' leap down the engine bay. I was stunned for about five seconds, letting out a slow and quiet, "Oh, phuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck." Nothing under the car, of course. I'm pretty sure it fell on the tranny housing, or a plate mounted near the firewall...needless to say, I spent an hour looking for it and decided to thread in a new screw. I figured an aluminum one would go nicely by being cross-threaded into the steel hole. The steel was plenty strong, aluminum made itself a new thread nicely. Even worse, dropping a roll of black electrical tape into the back of a dirt black engine bay in the black of night. Of course, it ended up against the manifold and stunk like shit for a week.
