GOT2B GM Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Here's an idea that would benefit all w-body owners. Looks like the SHO guys beat us to it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Taurus-SHO-Aluminum-Subframe-Mounts-Bushings_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42609QQihZ019QQitemZ290174014112QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V Wouldn't be too hard to make on a mass production CNC lathe. AWeb80 Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 i'd need measurements...or some stockers to get some off of..... Quote
slick Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 I'd be more worried about a lot of vibration. Quote
Brian P Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 those look a bit simpler than ours to begin with. Could still be done. Quote
Euro Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 I'd be more worried about a lot of vibration. x2 Quote

GOT2B GM Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 IE Subframe bushings rotting and frame dropping. Quote
Euro Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Is that a huge problem with these cars? I didn't think it was. Quote
GOT2B GM Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 I didn't think so either. But, my 93 vert which was a Florida car up till a couple years ago, needs rear bushings at the least, and it only has 80,000 miles on it. You can see the back of the subframe move side to side almost 1/4" when sawing the steering wheel back and forth. And yes, the bolts are tight. Quote
Euro Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Damn, my 140k mile Illinois winter Lumina ones were perfect when I sold it. Quote
per0781 Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 same with my 155k bushings that saw massachusetts winter every year since new. that even includes burnouts before the car removal guy cam e and took it Quote
1990lumina Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 My subframe moves around a lot in the Lumina...everytime I turn the steering wheel it groans and pops (I can feel it in the floor board, and it's NOT the rack)... Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 I really don't think this is the greatest idea. I'm all for aluminum mounts, but there really should be some kind of insulator in place. Quote
Chancho Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 Exactly, for most of us if not all our W's are our daily drivers, and even though im all for the race car feel in my grandma-mobile i just dont think mouinting the subframe to the body with essentially a set of washers is what im looking for, mabie poly bushings, but not aluminum Quote
