Psych0matt
i had a charging problem on the grand prix, and i realized that the reason i wasnt getting anything from the alternator was because I never plugged it back in. talk about a "D'oh" moment! EDIT: yeah, I had taken it off in order to reach the CPS better

EDIT: yeah, I had taken it off in order to reach the CPS better LOL, my first experience with a 3.4 DOHC: Guy replaced the alternator and it still didn't charge, had it towed to the shop I was working for. My boss went out and looked at it and was getting the tools to get it out when I looked at it. I asked him if he had already started taking it off as it was unplugged. He said "no," so I went out, plugged it in and started it after the battery was charged and it worked. lol
Robby1870
my next question that black plug that red wire was cut in my car i just striped it put crimp on is that like just a 12 volt lead to the alt? There are two electrical connections to the alternator. One is a big RED wire that attaches on the stud that comes out of the alternator. That is the positive 12V lead. The other is the black electrical connector which has like 3 or 4 wires. BOTH of these need to be plugged in and in good shape for the alternator to function properly. Psych0matt
and unplug your battery before messing with it/them. I've learned from too many experiences that when messing with the alternator, unplug the battery!
