intern8tion9l Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 dunno if this should be in the for sale/wanted section, if so feel free to move it my car got seriously f'ed up the other day when 4 of my wheel studs snapped off somehow. not sure what that is all about but to cut to the chase i had to grind off the axle nut because it was too rusted on and now i need another. having a lot of trouble finding one.....any thoughts? GOT2B GM Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 go to the j/y. Seriously, I'm in Canada and with all the rusty cars up here, I've never had a CV nut rusted on so bad that you couldn't remove it. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 Ill see what I can do at work to get you one. Quote
Bake82 Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 John, I have one I can send to you along with the washer. Shoot me your mailing address in a PM Quote
intern8tion9l Posted November 6, 2007 Author Report Posted November 6, 2007 kyle, let me check out a couple yards tomorrow first to see if i can get this thing fixed asap...i'm borrowing someone's car right now and i really don't want to keep it a long time. thanks though. Seriously, I'm in Canada and with all the rusty cars up here, I've never had a CV nut rusted on so bad that you couldn't remove it. i heated the thing for 10 mins with a blow torch, put a 4ft pipe onto my 1/2" breaker bar, and tried to get the nut off. i snapped the breaker bar and the nut didn't move so much as a mm Quote
intern8tion9l Posted November 6, 2007 Author Report Posted November 6, 2007 ok i got a nut from a yard. i got raped for it, but whatever it takes to get it fixed i guess. Quote

gp90se Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 check the threads on the axle, see if it was cross-threaded at some point in its life, I had to deal with that on my grand prix moons ago. also, anti-sieze the threads, little bit goes a long way. Quote
dbtk2 Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 Do you have an impact wrench? A good impact wrench (not like walmart POS 250ft.lb. deal) shouldn't have any problem working that nut off there. But, fwiw I've never had an issue getting one off with a breaker bar with a pipe on the end of it...so who knows. Quote
Robby1870 Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 Yeah, the torque spec on those is somewhere around 180 ft-lbs. But, like dbtk2 said, I've gotten them off with a long breaker bar and then I stand on the end of it. That said, if you can get a good impact, it's much easier. Quote
intern8tion9l Posted November 7, 2007 Author Report Posted November 7, 2007 the impact i used was either a mac or a matco, set on the compresser's max psi and the gun's max reverse torque. def no cross thread. ah well, it's off that's all i care about. now wheel spacers are my issue cause it shattered during this whole disaster Quote
