Transmission is shuddering? WTH??

96GTP w/3.4DOHC Transmission=??

 

My trans has been shuddering since I got the car but lately it has been getting real bad.

 

When the RPMs get to about 1700-1900 the shudder starts.

 

Is this common? Is it really the trans cause I was thinking Ignition?

 

Any help on the repair would be appreciated.

sounds like you might have a short in one of your wires or something along the lines of ignition like you said. I don't think it's your transmission.

does it continue to shudder above 1900, or does it stop at 1900? in all gears or just city/highway ? under hard accel? how about cruising ?

bad halfshafts? tcc switch? my gutlass cutlass used to do that till i unplugged the switch from the trans, then it went away. 2 months later i plugged it back in and it never did it again till i junked it. then again it was an 89 with a 3.1, so i could be wrong.

If I am feathering the gas @1900 it shudders, but as soon as I hammer it, it goes away. As long as I am above 1900 RPM it seems OK.

Does this happen in ALL gears? basically you are driving with the rpms at the lowest point in whatever gear you are in?

 

my 93 CS was doing this... and I have decided it was the fuel pump. In fact, in the last days of operation... I would get vapor lock, the pressure was that low.

Will vapor lock cause the car to act like it running out off gas. just something caused my car to act like it was out of gas till i purged the fuel rail. Thanks!,o srry for hijack.

try to unplug tcc, its under the air box on the frount of the Trans!. Hope this helps

And it will go into limp mode...Do not unplug the TCC on a 4T60E.

on the older 4T40 etc I used to do that for people. Unplug the TCC but I dont think it would be wise to do on the Electronically Controlled Transmission.

you almost never want to unplug and run electornic trannys without plugs pluged in, youre ecm is what controls the tranny and if it doesent see certain values from switches and sensors it goes haywire

my car was doing this sorta thing as well but it was only on hard acceleration and the rmps would just jump from full to nothing and back and forth till i let off and slowly accelerated again like it was stuck almost and after crusing at highway speeds for a while it would serge but it hasnt done it in a while

 

ps. i have the UB3 guage so it would just jump
