Psych0matt Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 this would make doing the trans a lot easier. a quick google shows that you can make one with wood, but no instructions or pics (unless i register and post at random caddy forums) Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Couldnt you just put a jack under the oil pan with the motor mount still attached and pull the tranny out sideways? Quote
Psych0matt Posted November 2, 2007 Author Report Posted November 2, 2007 i could i suppose, but im trying to ask questions/get as much info as I can before I blindly start doing some things, since the first half I'll probably do alone Quote
5speedz34 Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 My buddy took a 2x4 with a pipe on the top of it, and put it diagonally across his engine bay when he did his. Just make sure it rests on the body. I have a similar setup I bought at NAPA for $100, but its not identical. You can get these on ebay, or any big specialty tool place. Quote
93cutty Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 When I changed my tranny I pulled it with the motor through the top. I was going to drop the subframe but figured hell if I can just pull it all as one I wont have to fuck with the subframe. Its not that hard. Quote

IRONDOG442 Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 up and out is the way to go, rack and pinion is for the birds !!! Quote
5speedz34 Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 I don't know it seems like its alot of extra crap to remove. Quote
99RegalGS Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Take the engine and trans out the top. Also, If you drop the sub frame you may mess up the alignment. Quote
ManicMechanic Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 X2763982463295039473947053 on going out the topside. Quote

AWeb80 Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 OffTopic: I'd Change The Lower Mounts While Your There. Didn't Know If You Thought About That Or Not. Even If They Aren't Bad, Might As Well Have New Ones In There. Quote
Psych0matt Posted November 5, 2007 Author Report Posted November 5, 2007 yeah, the plan was to do all the mounts that I'll have accessible, so hopefully both lower mounts and tranny mount. I need to find the thread about the poly dogbone mod, too, cuz I wanna do that on it as well sometime Quote
AWeb80 Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Or You Could Call Me, Already Have Done It. Lol Quote
Psych0matt Posted November 5, 2007 Author Report Posted November 5, 2007 well, i mostly just need the part number, i know how to do the rest i think Quote
joey b Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 I suggest going from the bottom. Really not that hard. Quote
ismellrealbad Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 Going from the bottom is not hard, but im gunna have to say the top is easier. i went from the bottom because i did not want to spend an extra 2-300 on a hoist. i used a jack stand with wood on the oil pan. that works as your engine stand without damaging the pan. problem is.. yes the alignment. id rather spend 70 on an alignment than 300 on a hoist if you know you wont be doing projects of this sort again. also i would highly recommend having an impact for subframe bolts...sooo much easier. Quote
Psych0matt Posted November 6, 2007 Author Report Posted November 6, 2007 well, Ken has a hoist, so that seems to be the consensus. now to find a weekend to do it... Quote
93cutty Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 Don't let this intimidate you. It really is not that hard. Just start taking off parts and sooner or later you won't have anything left but to hoist the bitch out. Whatch out for your brake resevouir. I think I spelled that wrong. Quote
Brian P Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 I paid like $120 for a new hoist. Used it 4 times so far Quote
Psych0matt Posted November 6, 2007 Author Report Posted November 6, 2007 Don't let this intimidate you. I think that's the main reason I haven't got anywhere with this yet Quote
pwmin Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 pulling the trans out the bottom is cake w/ a lift and engine support i never got an alignment on mine, although it needs one after all ive done to it Quote
Psych0matt Posted November 6, 2007 Author Report Posted November 6, 2007 well it needs tires/an alignment anyways Quote
